I have a buddy that I have been friends with since we were kids. I will never forget the time I was over there and his sister decided that she was a vegan. It was salisbury steak I was having over there with his family. It's always that darn salisbury steak. In any event, she grew up to be a raging liberal. The moral of the story is if your 10 year old daughter annouces she is a vegatarian you better nip that in the bud damn quick before she becomes a total idiot. By the way there was a period of time she thought she was a lesbian too but that is another story.

Oh, and being a lesbian is cheaper because you can't get pregnant.
Though if you're a liberal, you could also argue that it's good for the environment.
"I will never forget the time I was over there and his sister decided that she was a vegan"
A memorable vegan-embracing episode, I'm happy for you.
"It's always that darn salisbury steak."
I see this troubles you, and I agree, it is important.
"your 10 year old daughter annouces she is a vegatarian you better nip that in the bud damn quick"
Absolutely. Don't have her go through life a bad speller.
"By the way there was a period of time she thought she was a lesbian too but that is another story."
And the goldfish, the goldfish they've got whooping cough they keep spitting water all over their Bratbys, well, they do don't they, I mean you can't, can you, I mean they're not even married or anything, they're not even divorced, and he's in the KGB if you ask me
@Allegory for Jesus: ""she was a lesbian too but that is another story"
Details or get out. "
Screw that. Pictures, or it didn't happen!
First, vegan and vegetarian are actually different, though I doubt the 10 year old was aware of the differences so why should an adult that equates liberal beliefs to idiocy have any idea of the differences?
Also, it's not uncommon for children to think for themselves once they grow up -- crazy I know. In many cases they'll adopt beliefs that their parents don't share, largely due to changes in society since the parents were young and a better educational system. Sounds like that family got split results if you consider the liberal sister a 'total idiot' and her brother to be your buddy.
506633- The experts say you're wrong.
"It is the position of the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada that appropriately planned vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases... Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence. Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals. Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer."

I'm a liberal and I think being a vegetarian is a dumbass thing to do...that is, unless you're taking dietary supplements that cover specific vitamins and minerals a body's not getting by denying itself meat.
Human bodies NEED meat.

Seriously, not to hijack this comment thread, but "vitamins" and "minerals" are aplenty in plants, often moreso than animals. The main concern with vegetarianism is getting your essential amino acids, as pretty much all meat contains all amino acids you need, whereas plants tend to be missing a few. This can be made up by eating a balanced variety of plants. The point being, claiming that humans "NEED meat" is factually incorrect.
How about no, dumbass.
There are some conservative vegans. The correlation between veganism and liberalism does exist, but you've got it all fucking backwards.
Correlation doesn't imply causation. If there is a correlation between two things, A could've caused B, B could've caused A, or a third factor could've caused both A and B.
In this case, you dumbass, the capacity to feel for the suffering of others (in this case, animals), caused her to become a vegan. That same capacity (in this case, directed at humans, especially those conservatives tend to judge) caused her to become a liberal.
And if she was lesbian, that is set far before food preferences, wired in her brain before she was even aware she had a sexuality at all.
A lot of people go through an experimental/curious period. At least she was able to question herself without some damn fundie driving her to suicide.
And what is with this line: "It's always that darn salisbury steak." That just cracked me up. If I were going to go vegan, I think it would be meatloaf that drives me to it. But I just love me steaks and ribs too much!! Now I'm hungry, must go be drooling carnivore now...
You guys are making me feel guilty for having my Amy's frozen burritos for supper. THEY'RE VEGETARIAN!!!
I'm running to the store to get a steak and a pound of bacon...I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE!!!!
Hey, the Fareway has that cute checkout boy...maybe he would like to try gay sex (if the Catholic priest didn't beat me to him!)?
After that I can go door to door and convert all Christians to Kahlessism. If they don't believe me or convert, I will play rock and roll music.
Just for the record, I have eaten just about every type of animal indigenous to Iowa, but I f-ing hate salisbury steak.
Now, if you are BBQing some bunny...
To be fair, some vegans can be just as fanatical as some Fundy Christians are. Still, whether one chooses to eat meat or not should be a matter of personal choice. I'm personally not a big meat eater myself, but I do like meat on occasion - and fish more so. Dairy is one thing I could never give up, though.
If I had to eat Salisbury steak day in and day out, I may become a vegetarian too.
Either that or head out the door and actually kill something.
"By the way there was a period of time she thought she was a lesbian too but that is another story."
What, was she refusing to eat sausages too?
I actually am against vegetarianism for environment arguments... The correct way to raise animals for food utilises food in the most efficient way by feeding them stems and stalks of plants increasing your crop yields.
The US way of growing animals is inhuman and wrong.
In all honesty the main reason we eat animals is firstly its good for our health. The protein we get does not need to be subject to amino acid conversion. And its a good source of iron which we do not get from plants. Anaemia sucks and indeed a balanced diet of meat and vegetables is superior to vegetarianism and/or the rampant unhealthy diet that most non vegetarians have.
Excuse me?
I've been vegetarian MY WHOLE LIFE. I've never eaten meat. My other was vegetarian when she breastfed me. But, you see, people say you 'need meat to develop your brain'.
I'm almost 14.
I have an IQ of 172.
But hey, I'm liberal. I'm dirt, in your eyes, ain't I? So, according to you I'm going to hell anyway.
Fuck you.
Vegetarian and vegan diets if they are properly planned out can be good for you. I really can't be arsed to put that much effort into planning what I'm going to eat so I find it easier to just tuck into a slab of juicy meat every so often.
I'd also have no qualms about tearing a strip of The WosMan and wolfing it down. After it had been properly disinfected of course.
I hope you can't catch stupid from eating fundies.

Nowadays, it is just about possible to come up with a vegetarian diet that meets all nutritional requirements, even the traditionally difficult ones. Trouble is, or rather, was, you'd need a mixture of crops from all over the planet to do so, and they'd all have to be fresh and properly nourished themselves; prior to our modern age and such wonders as rapid mass transport, synthetic fertilizers, refrigeration, freeze-drying, etc, it would indeed have been practically impossible for someone restricted to living in a given area to survive with anything approaching proper nutrition on a strictly vegetarian diet. Today, for people in relatively rich, developed nations at least, it is actually possible. (If you've got no allergies, that is - if you're allergic to any of the very few plants, nuts, fungi, kelp etc that contain certain rare but essential nutrients traditionally provided by meat, then being a carnivore is pretty much your only option.)
"Vegatarian?"
Yeah, there's nuthin' worse than a "vegatarian" Lesbian chewin' on a veggie taco, unless, of course, it's a carnivorous, straight boy suckin' on a juicy bratwurst.
Y'know, if I had reasoning skills like The WosMan, I would no longer be able to eat salisbury steak. Luckily, I have a brain.
Wait, wait, he had a choice between talking about the veganism and making 'she thought she was a lesbian but then a good dicking...' story and took the veganism one?
This guy's a strange one, indeed.
As for 'thought she was a lesbian', lots of women are various degrees of bisexual. It's not exactly a big deal.
Food choices = sexual orientation = political leanings.
That is a connection I am sure scientists would like to know more about. Of course, hard evidence is needed. Otherwise it is just the whacked our ravings of an ignorant fool.
""By the way there was a period of time she thought she was a lesbian too but that is another story.""
Translation: By the way she's also lesbian/bisexual, but fortunately since we love her so much we gave her so much flak that she's since repressed it.
Geez.
Well to be frank, veganism is pretty fundie in itself. From my experience of vegans, it seems to be more about selfrighteousness than about any ethical standpoint.
But then again, I can't blame them. I've yet to see a vegan dinner that's not some sort of vaguely brown gack, so...
"By the way there was a period of time she thought she was a lesbian too but that is another story."
Well, shoot, don't stop now. The story was just getting interesting.
~David D.G.
Yeah, becoming vegetarian will lead to you becoming a total idiot, lesbian, raging liberal. Better watch out...
Why are fundies so against vegetarians and vegans? All that's different about them is the food that they choose to eat/not eat. I can't count how many times I've heard fundies accuse Hitler of being a vegetarian as though it were a bad thing, along with being gay and atheist. I don't remember any passage in the Bible saying, "Thou shalt not choose to not eat meat." So what's the problem?
You're right! I turned veggie at the age of 5, and now, at the age of 14, I'm a liberal libertarian!
Which... is true, actually, but you're committing the fallacy of post hoc, ergo propter hoc here.
This guy might be surprised to learn that Matthew Scully, a former speechwriter for Bush AND the guy who wrote Sarah Palin's acceptance speech, is vegan. Yes, you can be vegan and conservative.
Also, I would like to tell Brain_in_a_Jar (#506933) that I have been vegan for 4 1/2 years and am allergic to soy, wheat, and nuts. My diet is actually not that limited and according to my doctor, all my nutrients are balanced. I don't even eat anything that exotic. Tonight I am having mushroom stroganoff for dinner. Last night, I had chickpeas a la king.
And to those who consider veganism too extreme--seriously? Have you seen what happens to the animals raised for meat, eggs, and dairy? THAT'S extreme. I'm not suggesting that everyone needs to go vegan, but you should at least respect the reasoning behind why so many people do rather than writing it off as fundamentalism.
... there was a period of time she thought she was a lesbian too but that is another story.
Might this have been around the time you were trying to get her to go out with you? I bet you meet a lot of "lesbians".
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
