"Sometimes this site makes me laugh, other times it makes me want to go out and shoot a god botherer in the face.
This is one of those other times."

I voted "yea" on this one. The entry this comment was made in response to had nothing to do with fundies who wanted to kill people, or torture people, or eternal damnation, or any of the truly violent, cruel things fundies sometimes say.
So I thought it might be a bit excessive for the stuff I wrote about to make someone want to kill fundies.
If the topic were something like, forcing a victim to marry her rapist, well, yeah, this might be a bit more appropriate.
God Botherer?
Aw, why bother?
It's no worse than FSTDT sometimes, but that doesn't make it okay.
The way it's worded makes it sound like you'd go and shoot Ned Flanders in the face because of something Fred Phelps said, though I'm sure that wasn't the intended effect.
Still, it's a bit excessive.
As much as I find fundies brain dead and irritating I've never actually wanted to kill one. Not even one of the obnoxious Phelpses.
Ah, what a Pharisee I must be.
While over the top, I wouldn't put this in the secular fundie category, especially after reading some of the other insane crap that the blog author skewers. Go to the main page -- below the article in question is a commentary on Pat Boone's appeal to (lynch) mob rule.
Since Dick Cheney's hunting trip, 'shooting someone in the face' has become some sort of running gag.
I wouldn't say this is really hateful.
Hardly a secular fundy. I'm sure the frustration of dealing with a fundy here has had all of us had a moment of homocidal rage.
But really, this guy isn't using caps or anything, it's probably no more than any of us posting a DIAF.
Murdering people for not thinking like you... is fundie. Fundierific, imo.
It's not normal to have a violent reaction to someone's belief system. Given, the poster doesn't mean it literally, but as we all know god botherers aren't great at distinguishing humor and sarcasm, and this just gives them ammo in the 'atheism rots your soul' argument
I don't see why it's that bad. No worse then what we say here everyday. Which to be fair isn't always very nice but still, hardly fundie. Unless he means that he'd shoot a moderate for the actions of a fundie, in which case, yeah this is secular fundism.
"God botherer" is his term for non-Christians who, in his opinion, are going around bothering God.
This is the rant of a believer made AGAINST Fundie Watch, not one of the fundie watchers themselves.
Tracer - why do you think "God Botherer" is a term for non-Christians? Every time I have heard it used, it has been used to describe the people who constantly bother God with their prayers, requests etc. Surely this means theists.
When I read the comment in its original context, it read as if someone was making a flippant remark about how frustrating it was reading about a "Christian Law" course being taught. Calling this "secular fundie" (or worse, religious fundie) strikes me as being totally over the top.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
