The followers of any religion are extremists. They literally believe that proud atheists like you and I will burn in a pit of fire for eternity for our horrible transgression of free thinking.
Just because some of them aren't vocal about it doesn't mean they aren't thinking it. It is literally in their book of myths. They hate us because we think for ourselves. Why defend them?

He didn't specify which book of myths, but on the assumption that he refers to the bible, he is right. Where he goes wrong is in saying "the followers", because that's far too broad a statement to go unchallenged. I read somewhere that there are more versions of Christianity alone than there are verses in the Bible...and that's just the "official" versions. It's possible that each individual congregation has its own reading, dependent upon the things that each individual pastor chooses to emphasize.
He seems to be mostly right. Mostly. Nobody here can deny that there are many abrahamics who just can`t wait to see us all being tortured for eternity and they would look at the spectacle with glee. There are however non-sociopathic folks among these religions as well and hopefully more than the fuck-ups and then f course there are certain religions which do not have a stick(or a torture basement if you will) concept at all and have no quarrel with the unbelievers. So there, still I`m gonna meh since especially in some regions his sentiments were pretty understandable.

Pastafarianism.
Someone's wrong.
No, you'te hated because you're an asshole. And you're assuming that every Christian is really into their religion. Haven't you heard of CEO Christians or Cultural Catholics? Hell, go to church regularly and then compare how packed it is compared to Christmas.
You can morally object to religion, in any and all of its forms, sure. But you have to make two distinctions;
One: the theory of religion is not the same as its practice. I was a Catholic for 12 years, but rarely heeded what the Pope had to say on any issue. What Catholicism was "supposed to be" was rarely what was practiced. Such is the case with all religions, and failing to make that distinction paints you as an extremest far more than your targeted strawman.
Second: Many religious or spiritual beliefs don't have any sort of hell. Punishment, or simply exclusion, for unbelievers? Perhaps. But that is a different argument than hell.
I have little patience for crusaders such as this anymore. Atheists such as this one, who abandon the text of a religion, but not it's monolithic worldview.
It's funny, because we've been having a heatwave for the last few days. So I've been going around telling everybody: "It's as hot as Hades!"
Not that I believe there is such a place, for one minute, nor do some religions.
@Happy Atheist
None of the Christians I know believe in a literal Hell.
That's great, but I live in a pretty conservative area and just about all the Christians here believe in a literal Hell. In fact, I know one highway in SW Missouri that has billboards warning about eternal hellfire.
@Doubting Thomas
That's fair too. I more meant what I said in opposition of CarCarpetCity's idea that all religious people are extremists and all religious people believe we'll burn in Hell. I'm aware some do, but they are a tiny minority where I'm from, and the perfectly nice, non-hateful folks should be defended.
And the fundamentalists should be ruthlessly mocked, of course.
Confused?
