Idaho Republican Party leaders are calling on the state Legislature to invalidate local city ordinances that ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation - like the one Coeur d’Alene passed after an emotional community debate just two weeks ago.
Six Idaho cities have passed such non-discrimination ordinances in the past year and a half, and a seventh, Idaho Falls, is looking into one now; the Idaho GOP wants them halted.
Cornel Rasor, a former Bonner County commissioner and chairman of the Idaho GOP’s resolutions committee, said, “I’d hire a gay guy if I thought he was a good worker. But if he comes into work in a tutu — he’s not producing what I want in my office.”
“Resolved, that the Idaho Republican State Central Committee recommends that our legislators support Idaho’s current anti-discrimination laws and policies and enact a law that would make unenforceable any municipal ordinances that would seek to expand categories of prohibited discrimination beyond current state anti-discrimination laws and policies,” the resolution states.
“If a guy has a particular predilection and keeps it to himself, that’s fine,” Rasor said. “But if he wants to use my business as a platform for his lifestyle, why should I have to subsidize that? And that’s what these anti-discrimination laws do.”

On the one hand, I'm cheered that there are six cities in Idaho which have passed anti-discrimination laws and policies. On the other hand, where would a red state be without the freedom to victimize?

HE'S NOT GOING TO SHOW UP IN A TUTU, YOU GOOFUS!
And if you think all Thebians run around in frilly pink tutus all day, I have a few Bears, Leathermen, Kevin Grayson, Spartans & The Sacred Band of Thebes who'd love to talk to you!
I don't endorse this guy's bigotry. Neither would I support any reading of anti-discrimination legislation that would prevent him sacking a guy who did dress that unprofessionally.
As a gay man myself, I acknowledge we do have a few crazies among us. In fact, about the only thing we all have in common is our sexuality. And even then it's more of a range than a definition.
I recall an instance of a guy being sacked for his insistence on wearing a muumuu. (As far as I know he was heterosexual.)
My fellow FSTDT'ers who say "He wouldn't do that" can't speak for all gay men. I know I can't.
Personally I have no problem with a job that requires a dress code as part of presenting a professional appearance.
Being gay is a lot like being an atheist. The only thing 2 gay men may agree on, is being gay. They can disagree and not like each other for a whole slew of reasons but they may both happen to be gay.
Just like atheists, the only thing we have to agree on, is that there are no gods - beyond that, we can disagree about every thing!

So if heterosexual guy shows up in a tutu, he's all good.
...got it...
And here I thought the Republicans were all for more "local control." I guess it's only when "local control" means doing things they agree with.
Yes I understand the financial issues, but I do not understand how anyone with an ounce of integrity can vote Republican.

First, wearing a tutu is not something you do because you're gay, it's something you do when you have no fashion sense. Second, so what if somebody wear a tutu to work? It really doesn't impact his ability to produce anything.

And guess what? Most gays don't do anything like that. Not that this stops a bigot like you from firing somebody for proseletyzing if they simply say "I'm gay" or "I voted Obama". Funny how proseletyzing is about stating one's own convictions and orientations and not at all about forcing others to acquisce to your own beliefs.
But if he wants to use my business as a platform for his lifestyle, why should I have to subsidize that?
Does that include white Christian heterosexual males who use the business as a "platform" for their lifestyle?
No it doesn't, does it?
Wait until the week before the Super Bowl or any NASCAR weekend. Those (overweight) white Christian heterosexual males will be shoving their lifestyle down everybody's throats.
To invalidate anti discrimination ordinances is to support discrimination. This would not pass muster in Europe.
I suppose there must be a lot of right wing, GOP rednecks in Idaho. [make mental note never to go to Idaho for fear of being tained by their ignorance.] I am sorry for the sane, resaonable people who live there.
BTW, did anyone read 'Bonner' as 'Boner'? I must be getting dyslexic. I had a momentary flash of him in a tutu. Actually, I'v only ever seen ballerinas in tutus.
enact a law that would make unenforceable any municipal ordinances that would seek to expand categories of prohibited discrimination beyond current state anti-discrimination laws and policies
Does this seem like a retarded idea to anyone else? As if there will never be a new minority who are discriminated against? Oh right, douches like this don't care as long as white Christians retain their spot at the top of the pile.
On several jobs, I got pretty damn tired of hearing about male co-workers' predilection for sports. I get that it's an important part of their identity, but I wish they'd quit flaunting it. Arguments invariably arise, weird costumes are sometimes worn, and overall it detracts from an orderly workplace.
At least somebody knows you need to stop saying "it'll never happen", especially if you won't do anything to prevent it. Try reading Tumblr sometime. Of course, you'd probably think they're all conservative trolls trying to make you look bad.

Republicans arguing in favor of discrimination. Imagine that.
And they wonder why they lose elections.
“I’d hire a gay guy if I thought he was a good worker. But if he comes into work in a tutu

Stereotype much? How often (outside of gay pride parades that is) do you ever see gay guys walking around wearing tutus?
Okay, this is way more serious than these Republican assholes are making it sound. In the full article, it says a guy actually lost his job after his (male) partner died and he was listed as his survivor in the paper. That's not even close to being okay. Also, it says people in this part of Idaho can actually be evicted from their homes for being gay. What the fuck?! How does that even happen in the USA? It shouldn't happen anywhere, but this is supposed to be a civilized, democratic country. This country is so full of shit. It may be better than a lot of other countries in the world, but it doesn't really live up to the hype. But we've known that for a while now.
If you have a dress code at your company and someone comes in dressed in a tutu, you can fire him because he comes in dressed in a tutu!
In no way does his sexuality come into play. Or would you accept this behavior from your hetero employees?
An employer has every right to decide what dress-code and code-of-conduct should be followed in the work-place. That has nothing to do with discrimination of gender, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity or disability.
What these anti-discrimination laws do is stopping employers from sacking people who have pictures of their same-gender partner on their desks, who talk about their weekend with their same-gender partner, instead of an opposite-gender partner. The gender of the partner is the only thing differing between heterosexuals and homosexuals, after all.
Confused?
