@ the folks jumping to Michael Jackson's defense:
Actually I love Michael--he was my childhood idol (and yes, snarkers, this was before the child-molestation allegations, but either way, I very firmly think he's innocent). I just like poking fun precisely because I love him. I'm glad I'm not the only MJ aficionado 'round these parts. :) I thought I was, sadly.
I suspect Michael did "bleach" his skin to an extent, but it was to even out his vitiligo splotching, not to change his race. You can't blame him for that. As for the rest of his physical changes, I can't explain those away--he clearly had quite a bit of plastic surgery, to put it politely, though he most likely had body dysmorphic disorder as a result of childhood abuse and being teased for his appearance. I still think he still looked fairly good, even right before he died. You can take unflattering photos of anybody, even a supermodel. In his case, the bad ones just get played up because he had a lot of surgery. I actually tried to find a good picture of the "white" MJ to post that I liked and thought was still (affectionately) humorous when contrasted with the "When was the last time a Black person changed their race?" line. I think the one I found fits the bill because Michael looks like he's thinking "...ahem."
...at least to me, anyway. I know Michael had a lot of problems and took people making fun of them very personally, but he also had a very healthy self-depreciating sense of humor. Hell, his awesomely crazy and surreal video for "Leave Me Alone" epitomizes this--it even has a scalpel and nose flying across the screen at the beginning, which pretty much sets the tone for the whole thing. He also personally gave Weird Al permission to parody all of his songs and videos because he loved Weird Al's jabs at his work that much. I like to think he'd laugh along at my jab if he saw it and knew I wasn't ridiculing him. But I seriously digress.
All of that said, though, vitiligo changes a person's skin color against their will, but to hide this, it can be evened out with heavy makeup and de-pigmentation treatments, yet they're still the same race either way. Homosexuals are attracted to the same sex against their will, but they can choose to repress or "ignore" their same-sex attractions (usually to disastrous result), yet they're still gay either way. Come to think about it, this is actually a pretty good, albeit strained comparison--it's just not for the reasons DesertReneagade thinks.
(And, yes, this was thoroughly off-topic and reeks of TL;DR.)
