There are no atheists, just idolaters. Humans will worship something; the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart. For atheists, they have no one to worship but themselves, excessively admiring and adoring themselves. This is not a new idea. Paul talked about it in the book of Acts, chapter 17.

Says the guy who believes that the entire world was created specifically for the enjoyment of his species, and that of the six billion members of said species only he and his church are the 'chosen ones'
If anything, part of accepting atheism is the recognition that you are but a tiny insignificant part of a stupendous and colossal universe, not the culmination o some divine plan.
Gosh! Sometimes I despair. I can only look on in awe at such geniuses of modern philosophical thinking like Joey Nelson. With the ultra efficiency of the practiced sharp shooter, he holes the bull every time. Listening to great maestros like Joey, I learn something new about myself, something that might otherwise have eluded me. I almost wish I could meet him one day, face to face. But, damn, if it wasn't for my queasy constitution and my aversion to being covered in flecks of spittle and also the dispiriting sight of dangling drool, it might have been arranged.
Again with the "atheists really worship _____." No, I don't worship anything. But even if I really did worship myself, at least I know for a fact that I exist. But I'm a pretty humble person and realize my own limitations, so I don't constantly "admire and adore" myself.
But again this just shows how fundies are so narrow-minded they can't understand that some people can get through life without worshiping anything.
I'm an atheist and I hate myself. So, you know, you're wrong on the "excessively admiring and adoring themselves" bit. And everything else, too.
Just remember there are some things which are irrefutable and also eternal. For instance, we know that God will be mocked. Good luck in refuting that. Also, gullible fundies are drooling morons, impossible to deny. Good luck in attempting to appear as though you aren't. LOL
Acts also says that, after his vision, Paul went to Jerusalem to confer with the apostles and confirm that his vision was genuine. However, in Galatians, Paul specifically says he did NOT go to Jerusalem because he did not need anyone else's input to assure him that his vision was genuine. Clearly, you bible is in conflict between what Paul himself said and what Paul's groupies said he said.
So why is Joey unable to see this conflict? Because he, like so many fundamentalists, has made the bible into an idol. He cannot see its obvious flaws due to his excessively admiring and adoring it.
If he didn't worship the bible blindly, he might come to see that it doesn't actually contain any new ideas at all.
"they have no one to worship but themselves, excessively admiring and adoring themselves."
Yeah, it's almost as if we had the gall to believe that we were made in the image of some all-powerful, awesome deity and that that made us super special and awesome also. Oh, wait ...
Self-Worship? Let me return this 'honor' by quoting:
The more I study religions the more I am convinced that man never worshipped anything but himself.
Sir Richard Francis Burton, British explorer & orientalist (1821 - 1890)
"the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart"
The heart is a blood pump. Nothing more. Ergo...:

Even if 'twere the case (which it isn't; why would I want to worship me, who isn't exactly Michelangelo's 'David', and am almost as hairy as Robin Williams?), at least I have one up over your so-called 'God':
I exist .
Now prove the existence of your so-called 'God', Joey. To my satisfaction. But you can't. And never will. Ergo, your 'God' doesn't exist:

"The imprint for worship is stamped on every heart". I think that is false. It is entirely possible to not worship anything. To like or desire things is different from worshipping them. There are other traditions (Buddhism for instance) which try to get rid of all desire, and therefore not "worship" anything. To worship something is to be enslaved to it, to enslave oneself.
Translation: Whaaa! Our cult can't co-opt your herd instinct!
Cue the, "Word of Christ" poster.
Paul talked a lot of shit. I really love it when he got going on the Greek philosophers. Reminds me of the Brave Sir Robin song, and his ineffectual curses are hands-down proof that he could not hold his own in rational discourse.
The imprint for worship is stamped on every heart
Hm. I would actually state that every human has a Spirituality need. Some choose to fill it with religion, as do you. Some choose to fill it with awe and wonder about the universe and the science that underlies it, as I do.
You need to broaden your thinking, Joey.
"...the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart"
I've seen many humans hearts but I have never seen any imprints on them. You DO know the heart is just a pump, right?
You're right, it's not a new idea, but it's an idea that's always been incredibly wrongheaded, and an idea often 'thought up' by imbeciles.
So you have the arrogance and audacity to claim to know what atheists believe better than atheists themselves? How... fundamentalist of you. Christians claim the ability to read minds. Why have the parapsychologists not seized on this yet? Let me tell you, however, that I sure as hell am not an idolater. I have never worshipped any "idols" before in my life. Thus, you are wrong.
"There are no atheists, just idolaters."
Do not presume to tell me what I believe, you arrogant twit.
"Humans will worship something; the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart."
No, sir. That delusion may afflict you, but not everyone has been over-run by it.
"For atheists, they have no one to worship but themselves, excessively admiring and adoring themselves."
I don't know of any atheists who worship themselves and, I dare say, neither do you.
"This is not a new idea. Paul talked about it in the book of Acts, chapter 17."
If one wishes to believe the Bible, one must recognize that Paul admits that he is a liar. Don't quote to me the words of an avowed liar to support your assoholic position.
"Humans will worship something; the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart."
Yeah! Incredulously, some even worship non-existent and invisible cloud-loungers. However, this adoration of invisible cloudsters seems to drive people mad. It is all too apparent that this invisible cloudster is in fact an insane muppet God that loves His worshipers to be simpletons and morons. Easy to understand why, this God is such a retarded imbecile that it seems reasonable to assume that it in turn would desire backward droolers as its Earth puppets.
I think this attitude that atheists admire and adore themselves is an indication of the low self-esteem of religious fundies.
Fundies seem to have very little self-esteem, and they require a god to worship as a means of supporting their own self-image: "God loves me, and that means I'm better than you! Take that!"
Atheists, who don't require an imaginary best friend to get through life, apparently come across to fundies as extremely proud and willful. Perhaps fundies are jealous of atheists' self-assurance?
There's material here for a psychology paper, if only I wasn't majoring in IT.
Wait, I thought we worshipped Charles Darwin, or wait, was it gravity that we worship? I'm so fucking confused.
Hey Joey, do you want to know what I really worship? Rationality, reason and logic and you have none.
> Humans will worship something
Most people I know, atheists and theists alike, don't really seem to worship anything . Maybe that's because no one ever told them what use there is to worship a creator. Or worship anything at all. I mean, all gods worth their salt obviously do everything they're supposed to do, whether we believe in them or not!
> the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart.
Why not imprint the faith as well? If humans are wired to be afraid and awed by what they cannot understand, should not the all-knowing, all-loving God have had the foresight to put folks' minds at ease by giving them the knowledge of God since birth?
And what use is there in converting children to Christianity? Why mess with God's plan by reducing the uncertainty and fear of unknown? What kind of colossal hubris do you really need to assume that God's "imprint for worship" isn't enough, and humans need to do something about it? Why give people answers, knowing that knowledge leads people away from that fear and awe of God?
Atheists are narcissistic.
Atheists are terminally depressed
Which is it? Do we love or hate ourselves? Tell us!
I worship nothing and hold nothing sacred, and I spend just enough time in front of a mirror to shave. I realized a long time ago that there is no arguing with people like Joey Nelson. They don't live in the same reality I live in, so words and concepts mean different things to them. I would do better learning to speak dolphin.
[Paul talked about it in the book of Acts, chapter 17.]
And Dumbledore talks about Lord Voldermort in the Harry Potter books. IT MUST BE TRUE!
CailinBan for the win!
@ Dexter: I was tempted to say I worship women with no gag reflex, but that's not PC. Actually, this pretty much sums up what I think about worship:
http://www.jhuger.com/kisshank.php
Humans will worship something; the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart.
So is that why 90% of humans have one of 40,000 different religions - each one making a different claim about who god is and what he expects of us - and want to kill anyone who disagrees with them? Did it ever occur to you that maybe the imprint for worship is stamped on every a$shole?
Look, I go to a fundamentalist church. I have seen more Christians there worshipping themselves (like you said, excessively admiring and adoring themselves...and money) than I have seen atheists doing that. In fact, every atheist I know is way more selfless than most Christians I know.
And evangicals will bear false witness/lie about their fellow man to make themselves seem smart.
Paul talked about that too, you should go back and read about it
"Humans will worship something; the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart."
The drive to worship invisible cloud-loungers is stamped on your heart. At least the self worshipping atheists worship something real, ignoring the fact that atheists by defnition don't worship anything.
Wait.
This is coming from a guy who believes that the ultimate determiner of Right and Wrong is basically a spiritual being whom happens to agree with him on everything when it comes to such matters (for example, killing babies is morally wrong unless it is done by the ancient Israelites or against the enemies of America) and he has the nerve to accuse atheists of worshiping themselves?
I think my irony meter just broke.
Humans will worship something; the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart.
So is that why 90% of the world's population adheres to some religion or another - even though they all disagree with each other and want to kill anyone who disagrees with them?
Joey has half a point here: people do give themselves to great causes, worship their "idols" from the world of sport, movies, music, even politics - remember Obama fever? Seems a long time ago now. And, sorry to upset the apple-cart, I can certainly think of a few self-regarding atheists who have created their own cult. As a general comment on atheists it is of course totally unfair and applies with equal force to many a tele-evangelist.
"Humans will worship something; the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart."
I think, actually, correct, but not in the way Joey would think. I think he is trying to state that worship is the "correct" and natural thing to do, but disagree with that. Part of the reason I think religion is so popular is because it is reassuring to believe in, that the imprint for worship is a behaviour humans participate in as an extension of group mentality. Belief in a higher power and worship of such comes about due to conformity, a natural human hehaviour.
"For atheists, they have no one to worship but themselves, excessively admiring and adoring themselves"
Oh FFS! I am a middle aged man, that is 250 LBS that is 5'8" tall!
I don't look in the mirror drooling over myself, and I am sure no other guy doe either!
Just let me find love and happiness!
@Headache:
"...the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart"
I've seen many humans hearts but I have never seen any imprints on them. You DO know the heart is just a pump, right?
Does that make you a surgeon, a coroner or a serial killer? ^^"
@HumMis1349:
Ass worship FTW.
Seconded!
“There are no atheists, just idolaters.”
Uh huh. Sure. How could i resist such a well-supported argument laid out so carefully.
‘Humans will worship something; the imprint for worship is stamped on every heart.”
So is the tendency to assign agency, which is why we shout at printers and beg our cars to start. Doesn’t mean that we can’t bring out intellect to bear on the practice and see it as false.
"For atheists, they have no one to worship but themselves, excessively admiring and adoring themselves.”
No, that’s Trump.
I have and recognize far too many flaws inside here that preclude worship. Why wuold i worship something that had a crush on a Muppet?
“This is not a new idea. Paul talked about it in the book of Acts, chapter 17.”
Paul’s a GREAT source for this screed you’re spouting. Not like anyone ever disagreed with anything that asshole put out.
Confused?
