[Regarding a previous post saying liberal Christians should abandon Christianity.]

I didn't say they needed to become atheists (though I certainly would not mind.) All they have to do to not catch the flak from the pernicious effects Christianity has had on the world is to edit their book and stop calling themselves Christians. Problem solved.

You may not be a Dominionist, but you point to the same book they do and revere it.

Oh, man! This is the Web Forum connected with FSTDTs. Unfortunately, with exception of a wonderful gentleman called Ultimate Paragon, most of the members there treated me like garbage....especially Ironchew & Ironbite (who might be the same person).

I confess, I had a huge meltdown in my final post, there. Sorry about that.

People here on FSTDT treat me so much better, here and are better able to put up with my weirdness.

Ultimate Paragon should come here, I miss him.

I never could really become "one of the crowd" at FQA for some reason. Yeah, I'm a weirdo who has her freakouts but I was always apologetic & even explained my mental issues so folks would be a tad more tolerant.

And ol' Irontroll was always "Mr. Contrarian/Killjoy/Destroy All Silver-Linings/Gloomy Doomy/TOTAL JERKASS!

I meh'd this one.

The Bible, the Koran, the Torah - all worthless "books". No, scratch that - they're not completely useless: you can still burn them for warmth.

What separates liberal Christians and Dominionists is degree and not kind.

Dominionists want to stone atheists like me to death (like it says in the Bible), and liberal Christians keep trying to explain to me how THAT is "just parable" or "no longer apply cuz JESUS!".

If anything, the Dominionists are the "true Christians", because while they may be bigoted psychopaths, at least they're reading a genocidal book of batshit doctrines like a genocidal book of batshit doctrines and not trying to somehow reconcile those outdated, barbaric, Bronze-Age "philosophies" with modernity, the Enlightenment, secularism, and science, like liberal Christians futilely attempt to do.

That said, I would never equate a Dominionist to a liberal Christian. In fact, I have friends who are liberal Christians (and I have made the above positions of mine known to them). Sure, they're reading the same ancient book of illiterate lies, but at least they're not calling for people to be shot for lying about their virginity like the fundies are.

I agree that liberal Christians, in exalting a book that promotes bigotry and killing as THE moral standard of the universe, are empowering the Dominionists. I'll even say that too often liberal Christians, when confronted with the issues with the Bible, will defend the Bible and make excuses for it before they criticize the fundies. But what sets you and me on opposite poles is that I'm not willing to flak liberal Christians for the sins of the fundies. Guilt by association is what bigots do.

My problem is with the holy book and its most fanatical followers and while I wish liberal Christians would seriously consider just abandoning the Old Testament and Paul, I'm not about to blame them for the actions of the Westborough Baptist Church and the American Family Association because ultimately, they both are working from the same book and yet one side isn't forcing gays to be put to death or celebrating funerals and ultimately we are responsible for our own behavior. Blaming Christianity is not only a form of scapegoating, it also gives fundies an excuse for their personal failings.

Oh, and if there seems to be a contradiction between "I agree that liberal Christians, in exalting a book that promotes bigotry and killing as THE moral standard of the universe, are empowering the Dominionists" and my stance on blaming all Christians, there isn't one. Fundies will derive power from wherever they can and expecting liberal Christians to stop their way of life just because of some power mongers is totally unfair. It'd be as unfair as telling Americans to stop paying their taxes just because Bush used their tax money to bomb Iraq.

Hoooo boy. As a gamer for the better part of ten years, I might be able to help you a bit.
"Gamergate"(which is a fucking stupid name) is really two conflicts. Theoretically, it's a fight between gamers, who are frustrated with a corrupt and condecending press, and the gaming press, who are frustrated with the often misogynist and insulting gaming community.

Now, in REALITY, all it is is an overblown shouting match between social justice warriors and internet trolls, who take turns censoring and hacking each other, with everyone taking the moral high ground, of course. It's essentially the two worst sections of gaming culture meeting, and I'd stay as far away from it as possible, if you value your sanity.I have to deal with it, because I'm a gamer, but no one else should be subjected to it.

Ugh. Sorry for the off-topic rant. Maybe it'll blow over a little once Inquisition comes out and the internet becomes swarmed with the inevitable deluge of unhappy Bioware fanboys.
