Along with all the "birth pangs" Jesus lists in Matthew 24, are you finding that more and more people around you are being attacked spiritually and also physically in these last days?
Consider this....
In my family alone this past year, my grandma became mentally unstable and we were afraid she might literally kill my grandpa. My sister and her newborn have been having all sorts of problems since he was born, from thrush to reflux to colic and more. My aunt just found out last week that she has cancer. And now I got thrown a curve ball mself yesterday. I had the flu back in February and never fully bounced back, so I went and got a blood test, thinking I might be a little anemic. When I got the phone call, instead of being prescibed iron pills, I was told I have something called "smudge cells" which can be indicitive of Leukemia. They want me to have a bone marrow biopsy next week. I can't believe it! I'm only 29 and a mother of two young boys 3 and under! I shouldn't be getting tested to make sure I don't have cancer!
And at work, everybody is crabby and defensive and sometimes downright nasty, especially to me since I openly talk about my faith. Is the gas prices starting to get to everyone? Because this really seemed to rev up just in the last year.
I really feel that the Lord is coming back soon, but some days it just doesn't seem like soon enough. I hate the feeling of not knowing what is coming next or how long we might have left before Jesus comes back. I don't want to die before the rapture and leave my husband and young children behind. Lord help us all through these increasingly trying times, and give us the motivation to continue our witness through it all.

In the last year you started to believe your family was being attacked by the supernatural and in the last year your co-workers have been reacting negativetly to your religious ramblings...Huh, that's a puzzler. I'm sure one has nothing to with the other. It must be gas prices for sure because there's no way you'd start sounding crazier to your co-workers of late, right?
Senility + periodic illness + cancer + leukemia + "persecution" + gas prices = Jesus!!!
Seriously, I feel sorry for this woman and her family. They obviously are going through a rough patch. But, really...you can't really say that the world must be coming to an end due to that.
I agree with others... Not really fundie. If all she listed as "birth pangs" were gas prices and coworkers being meanies, that would be more like a fundie... but she has some other extremely stressful issues going on in her life. I would be freaking out, too, if I had little kids and thought I might have cancer.
I'm sorry your family is going through a difficult time, but it has nothing to do with any impending rapture. And remember, a positive outlook is imperative for cancer patients, so lose the doom and gloom death cult views if you want to make it through.
How sad that she thinks RR is her best choice for support and advice? If she does, indeed, have leukemia I'm sure they'll convince her to devote her life to dying in Jesus' good graces rather than focusing on recovery. I sure hope she has a doctor who can talk her into getting some psychiatric help to deal with the stress. Sometimes worry about an illness can be as bad as the illness itself. And RR sure isn't the place for constructive advice.
I lost a friend last year to AML. She experienced a very similar series of events in learning that she had it. She also had a little kid. It totally sucks when leukemia hits people.
I really feel sorry that it seems that she's so focused on some sky faerie being the solution to her problems that she's ignoring finding out what her options are.
I really don't support her religious views, but I don't want her to die and leave her two young children motherless.
There, a non-Christian said something nice. And I did not mean it as sarcasm! ;) Therefore, it can't possibly be the End Times.
I hope you live to raise your kids and they grow up to be amazing evolutionary scientists and/or punk rockers!
But I thought if you had enough faith, God would make all your boo-boo's better. I mean the bible does say if you have the faith of a mustard seed, if you tell a mountain to move, it will move. Jesus said you could do all of his magic tricks and more if you only have enough faith.
So what's wrong with your faith?
With the typhoon in Burma and the earthquake in China, the "rapture index" is approaching an all-time high. The rating is "fasten your seat belts", which doesn't make sense, as that would trap you in your car when Jeebus wanted to suck you into heaven.
Just wanted to point that out.
Chamale:
Seatbelts trap souls! :'(
Anyway, I don't know what's with you PA people and approving terribly sad quotations about people with messed-up lives who are using religion as a crutch to get through their legitimate suffering, but knock it off. It isn't funny at all.
Why hang on to religion, it only adds to the negativity and guilt of your situation if you think you're being attacked by Satan. With all the shit you're going through who needs all the extra emotional baggage of religion, it will only make you sicker and you obviously aren't getting any benefits out of praying to Jesus. People just have shitty luck sometimes and they go through even worse stuff than what you are experiencing right now, it doesn't mean there's some cosmic spiritual force persecuting them, it just means the world is a rough place and no one is guaranteed a perfect life. I hope things start getting better for you.

I actually submitted this one...I wasn't trying to be funny or make fun of this woman's situation, and I'm sure that's not why these kinds of quotes are accepted. IMO, the purpose of this site is not just comedy, it's also to show how destructive and dangerous fanatical religion is to the people who practice it and to the people around them. If I'm wrong then the mods of course don't have to post my submissions. But I submitted this because it struck me as arrogant to think that you should be immune from bad things in life because you are young and christian and have children, when people all over the world experience tragedies every day and have to learn to cope with them. People get cancer all the time and they don't go around whining that it means the world is going to end and Satan is out to get them. Anyway, sorry for rambling and hope I didn't offend you.
Laura
I can see that you're having a bad time, but really, people have been getting sick throughout history. if being diagnosed with cancer was indicative of the imminence of the rapture it would have happened several times already.
@Laura
"But I submitted this because it struck me as arrogant to think that you should be immune from bad things in life because you are young and christian and have children, when people all over the world experience tragedies every day and have to learn to cope with them."
I think what she means is that her children need her and this is a very bad time for her family for more bad news to hit. She's not truly saying that just because she has children, she's magically protected from cancer. It's just a "Why me?" reaction, which is very common. She's under a lot of stress right now.
All of these peoples posts are the same.
[Insert some random odd or un odd happening]
[Insert how it makes me feel really depressed]
[Insert Jesus must be coming back.]
All families go through bad times. It sucks, but that's the way life is. Pray for strength if that helps you get through it, but concentrate on your health care rather than "continuing your witness" and pissing other people off. You've got enough stress without adding to it.
And at work, everybody is crabby and defensive and sometimes downright nasty, especially to me since I openly talk about my faith.
Talking about religion in the workplace can make for a hostile environment. That is one of many subjects that shouldn't be talked about, especially if you're on the clock.
Spider Web:
I see your point, and I can definitely relate to her fears about her children...she does seem to be having a rough time of it. I just know from experience (like a lot of folks here) that religion isn't much of a help for situations like this...it seems if God cared about his creation this kind of stuff wouldn't happen. I hope she stops worrying about the end of the world and converting everyone at work and just focuses on enjoying her time with her family and making sure they are taken care of if the worst should happen.
Well, I do feel bad about the possibility of cancer in someone so young. But shouldn't that alone make you question your loving God? Why would He allow you to get cancer? BTW, just because shit happens does not mean Jesus is coming back.

Yeah, someone attacked me spiritually the other night. Anyway, after a bottle of vodka, some loud drinking songs and a good nights sleep I ended up with the most awful headache.
I'm sorry for this woman for all the stuff she's going through. Rapture nut or not, she's got a lousy deal at the moment, and I can sympathize with anyone under such circumstances desperately wanting some kind of escape hatch from it all, no matter how unlikely.

Thrush, reflux, and colic are all NORMAL in babies.
Cancer happens. Lost Grams to it, myself.
Oh, BAAAAWWWW, you need a biopsy -- suck it up!
Maybe it's you, talking endlessly about your faith, that's making people irritable. Nobody wants to listen to your bullshit, shut the fuck up!
"And at work, everybody is crabby and defensive and sometimes downright nasty, especially to me since I openly talk about my faith. Is the gas prices starting to get to everyone? Because this really seemed to rev up just in the last year."
Considering what your Great God Bush had done the last eight years (culminating in the biggests financial & social fuckup since 1929), is it any wonder?! Don't be surprised if in the coming months & years, there's something resembling the McCarthy witchhunts - only in reverse. 'Right-Winger' and/or 'Conservative' becomes the new dirty word (just as 'Communist' was in the 50s). Anyone known to vote Repubican are given dirty looks in public (and even dirtier words). And right-wing fundies become the pariahs of America. Left-wingers & Atheists become the new social elite, and are considered superior.
"I really feel that the Lord is coming back soon, but some days it just doesn't seem like soon enough. I hate the feeling of not knowing what is coming next or how long we might have left before Jesus comes back."
Or you could just admit you're wrong, and realise you bought into what is just psychological & delusional snake-oil.
"I'm only 29 and a mother of two young boys 3 and under! I shouldn't be getting tested to make sure I don't have cancer!"
I'm not trying to be mean, but, just because you're 29 and a mother of two kids doesn't mean diseases shouldn't happen to you. Also, leukemia doesn't equal cancer, as far as I know.
"...are you finding that more and more people around you are being attacked spiritually and also physically in these last days?
You mean in these last 730,000 days? Well, sur... No, not so much, really.
Confused?
