Republican state Rep. Jess Edwards said last week that a bill banning marriage for people under 18 would make abortion more appealing for young people

"If we continually restrict the freedom of marriage as a legitimate social option, when we do this to people who are of a ripe, fertile age and may have a pregnancy and a baby involved, are we not in fact making abortion a much more desirable alternative, when marriage might be the right solution for some freedom-loving couples?" he said[…]

Technically, most of these cases are about teenage girls around 16-17 years.

But, yes, Edwards’s opinion looks suspect.

Welp, o ye who so much as think of having the right to say that LGBT people/liberals are ‘Groomers’, all we have to say is this:

The “freedom” to marriage seems a lot less like a freedom when these people talk about it… like “freedom” of religion has grown to be under them.

And like anyone else with a single atom of awareness and intellectual honesty has or will acknowledge: OK groomers. Now go back to yelling how the LGBTQ+ are supposedly the ones doing exactly what you’re doing instead of you.

Yep, freedom of religion as long as it’s the “right” religion. Freedom to marry whoever and whenever you choose as long as you happen to be a man and you wish to marry a woman of the “right” race and “right” religion. And if you’re a woman, you have to marry whatever man wants to marry you just as long as your parents approve and he’s the “right” race and “right” religion.

But lefties and Jewish people and lgbt people and Muslims and POC and women are the ones bullying and trying to control everyone…

Sounds pedophilic... and hiding behind the sanctity of marriage makes it hardly less so. Remember that Margaret Beaufort nearly died giving birth at only 13. That politician makes the kids sound like tomatoes, definitely suss.

Forcefully denying the liberty of girls with institutional slavery is not freedom.

To a pregnant child who did not— and could not— consent to sex, abortion is a more desirable alternative to marriage!
