You know, this was one of the most insightful moments when I became Wiccan. I'm not accountable to some supernatural things for my actions - my fuck-ups affect most immediately me , and they affect other people . This, if anything, makes morality a little bit higher priority.
If you have in any way functioning sense of morality, then when you realise you can do everything, you will also immediately realise that you ought not to do everything. Some things just are bad for you, and bad for everyone.
Homosexuality, however, isn't one of those things. There's no rational reason why it would be considered bad. All you have is your accountability to following a piece of outdated literature.

Also, I think that Inzl Kett got homosexuality and atheism wrong; xir notion is one huge straw argument; God (whether He, in the viewer's opinion, exists or otherwise) is just one stakeholder where accountability is concerned.
One more thing wouldn't believing in a God / Pantheon who agrees with you all the time and condemns all you disagree with be even more self-obsession than even Inzl Kett's own definition of homosexuality? Just my gut-feeling.
Maybe quite a few GLBT people are nonreligious and atheist because they were soured by religion. I wonder why that could be? Or maybe, like many people, they decided religion wasn't needed.
Hell, fundamentalists aren't just wrapped up in themselves in making god in their own image, they want everything and everyone else to conform to their irrational views. It has to be about them 24/7.

Probably because they see through the fearmongering that most major religions enact towards homosexuality and start to question if any of those religions' content is valid, often coming up with the answer "no." They realize that the bigotry directed against them stems from millennia-old, uninformed prejudices that have no bearing on today's society.
And, actually, it'd be more correct to say that atheism is common among out gays. Many religious gay people suppress their actual orientation because they've been told gays are horrible depraved monsters, and they for whatever reason do not choose go against the grain.

I'm agnostic, not Atheistic. But trust me, there can be no self love when you're busy trying to love someone else who is separate from you, who is entirely unlike you, no matter than sex or gender. I've spent enough time in my relationship to know that if I loved myself most of all, I wouldn't have made a life long commitment to another person.
Accountability does not just involve "answering to" people. It also involves being willing to be blamed or criticized if your actions are hurtful to other people.
In my experience, and in all the years I've been reading conservative news sources, conservatives Christians are pretty good about being accountable for "following all the rules", but put them to a different test and they have little accountability at all, because they almost never acknowledge that their EVER actions harm others. They meet criticism and blame with solipsism, ironically accusing their critics of shifting blame.
Personally, if someone told me that the only reason he doesn't go on a murder spree is because he thinks God will punish him if he doesn't, I would carefully watch my back around this person -- he might actually kill me if he thought God had given him special permission to do so.
If atheism is very common among homosexuals, it's probably due to the treatment they have received from religious people. Everyone in society has to answer to the government if they break any laws. Homosexuality is very similar to heterosexuality, the only difference is the genders involved. Heterosexuality has about as much impact on children and the culture at large as homosexuality does, maybe even a a bit more as it's much more common.
