It's time to stomp out atheists in America. The majority of Americans would love to see atheists kicked out of America. If you don't believe in God, then get out of this country. The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc., which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.), but you must believe. I don't recall freedom of religion meaning no religion. Our currency even says, 'In God We Trust.' So, to all the atheists in America: Get off of our country. People like Gail Pepin (The Chronicle, Oct. 11 ) have caused the ruin of this great nation by taking prayer out of our schools and being able to practice what can only be called evil. I don't care if she has never committed a crime, she is the reason crime is rampant. To The Chronicle , please do not give atheists a voice. You do more harm than good.

Too bad for you that atheists have the same rights that you have, so no "stomping out" of atheists today. So sorry you practiced that goose-step for nothing.
"The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc., which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.), but you must believe."
Believing in no God has just as much validity as believing in one, and it is just as strongly protected as your right to believe in one. Too bad that you don't agree, but those are the facts.

You recall incorrectly, as did the fools who added that unconstitutional editorial to the national currency. It does not belong there, and one day, the nation's political pendulum will swing back near enough to sanity that it will get removed. As for leaving the country, I think many would rather stay where their rights have at least some protection left, at least until or unless GWB ignores what's left of them. It's not ONLY "your" country; too bad you you don't appreciate that.

You have the freedom to write such a screed, just as atheists have a right to exercise their freedom of speech as well; too bad for you that they use it. As for what you refer to when you mention "what can only be called evil," I can only guess at this, but I strongly suspect that you mean "disagreeing with you."

Don't these halfwits study history involving Crusades and the Inquisition (What a show! ~ <3 mel brooks)? Also, isn't it logical to deduce that if you must coerce someone to believe something, it probably isn't true or had no merit for belief in the first place? Gloria should be kicked out of the country for such remarks....
GOD I am like another poster here - lost all faith in mankind.
Gloria, as a Christian, I am politely going to ask you to shove it and accept the possibility that there may, just may , not be some supernatural omnipotent being who created us and watches over what we do.
You can believe in God as a Catholic? Last I heard those Catholics were filthy cultists. You lose, Gloria - endorsing a cultist religion is anti Christian, so get out of America.
You can come to Australia if you like - we don't mind crazy people. We even gave our craziest person of all a role shaking her booty on national tv.
Yeah, let's kick out all the mute people, too. 'Cuz, you know, freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom not to speak. Oh, and mimes, too.
Fuckwit.
Though I'd be OK with that mimes part.
"It's time to stomp out atheists in America. The majority of Americans would love to see atheists kicked out of America. If you don't believe in God, then get out of this country. That's why the Founding Fathers made an effort to protect this country from the tyranny of the majority.
The United States is based on having freedom of religion, speech, etc., which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.), but you must believe. So, some of the greatest Americans would have kicked themselves out of the country?
I don't recall freedom of religion meaning no religion. I don't recall "no law respecting an establishment of religion" meaning "laws respecting an establishment of Alice Shannon's religion."
Our currency even says, 'In God We Trust.' So, to all the atheists in America: Get off of our country. Our currency has the all-seeing eye on the pyramid on it. So to all of the non-Freemasons in America: Get out of our country.

Yeah, atheists are so overrepresented in prison and so underrepresented in our top universities. Also, those parts of D.C. with a church on every block are the safest.
It's interesting that all of the examples she gives of ways one can believe in God are mainstream Christian. I guess that once all the atheists are kicked out of America (thank goodness I'm Canadian), they'll go after the Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Baha'is.
So, freedom of speech means you can say whatever you want, but you must say something?
Your currency was changed in the fifties, and so was the pledge of allegiance.
Children are allowed to pray as much as they want in school, as long as they don't disrupt classes. They can't be forced to pray, though, which is a good thing.
American prisons are full of Christians, silly. Atheists are fewer in prison than out in society.
Please don't give religious fundies like this a voice. You do more harm than good. (The only good is that we get to laugh at her stupidity.)
which means you can believe in God any way you want (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.), but you must believe.
Says who? Actually, I recall a quote by Jefferson where he had a different opinion....
But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.
This kind of attitude really doesn't take me by surprise any more, though. After all, I was just reading about then-VP George Bush saying in '87 how he didn't think atheists should be regarded as citizens.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
