Yeah, making Muslims eat ham, pissing on their Korans, opting out of the Fourth Geneva Convention etc etc are sure-fire ways to win hearts and minds in the Middle East.

Yes, I know - Peter claims to have had a vision (Acts 10) about a sheet let down from heaven with all sorts of food on it and was told "What God hath cleansed, [that] call not thou common." But Peter didn't actually eat it, did he? So how is the Muslim refusal to eat ham an unbelief? Orthodox Jews don't eat it, either.

An American or a Brit may well be a Muslim as well. Nationality does not equal religion.
Actually, pigs do tend to have a lot of gross paracites. I took a pathology class a year ago and I still regard pork products with suspicion. Some guy a long time ago figured out if you eat undercooked pork you get the brain worms. They look like snot and they drink you brain fluids. So, the no pork thing is based on the realization that eating pork CAN kill you if you are a nomadic desert people, don't have access to fresh, largely sterile water to wash your hands, and fuel to cook meat thoroughly.
