Huckabee Suggests Poor People Should Be Sold Into Slavery For Stealing
Host Jan Mickelson began by bemoaning that the “criminal justice system has been taken over by progressives.” In order to fight back, he argued, conservatives should look to the biblical Book of Exodus. “It says, if a person steals, they have to pay it back two-fold, four-fold,” Mickelson explained. “If they don’t have anything, we’re supposed to take them down and sell them.”
Mickelson went on to argue why jails, which he claimed are a “pagan invention,” are inferior to slavery: “We indenture them and they have to spend their time not sitting on their stump in a jail cell, they’re supposed to be working off the debt.”
“Wouldn’t that be a better choice?” the host asked.
“Well, it really would be,” Huckabee replied without missing a beat. “Sometimes the best way to deal with a nonviolent criminal behavior is what you just suggested.”

Non-violent criminal behavior? So that would include all those hedge-fund managers and others who engaged in financial activities that cause the stock market crash and housing bubble? We can close all those country-club minimum security prisons that white-collar criminals are sent to?
I might actually be willing to support some variation on that idea. Not slavery per se, but punishment that would actually make them realize the damage they caused and let them work to pay it back.
Yep, having a hefty cash flow from grifting for years, mike would like to buy a few slaves to feed his fat assed kids, but he's a Conservative so he'd like a good deal on them and even better, the taxpayers to provide them to him.
This isn't an isolated brainfart people, many Conservatives have been calling for 'indentured servitude' to be introduced into American law. They've already illegally been pulling it off in Southern states Cool Hand Luke style except not working roadsides like that movie, working estates for the rich or gardens to provide the prison owners/staff.
Mikes right into that shit, rich Christards coast through life, honest real folk are enslaved, that's Mikes Biblical plan for y'all. Research his past, unlike some Mike has spoken like this secularly as well, he has no barometer on acceptance of Christian extremism, he insists a small percentage of holy pretenders rule over the masses for over the last two decades at least.
He's the devil we know. If you support him we know your an asshole or idiot or both. Trump too but for different reasons.
Damn it, man, A Modest Proposal was not meant to be taken seriously! It was mocking unchristian attitudes, like yours, towards poor people.
Didn't Jesus tell you to sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor? Have you done that yet? Why not?
I thought the American prison system was a place where interns were indeed working, for little or no wages, giving someone huge profits.
And when justice makes mistakes ? Just ask the Birmingham Six, Mike Fuckabee, and they were jailed - even though they were completely innocent - for far worse than mere stealing.
The GOP really are doubling down on their FAIL, post-late 2012.
Just keep committing verbal seppuku, Mike Fuckabee.
Yo, Mike:
a) Slave labor would take away jobs. That's why we don't use prisoners to compete with legitimate businesses. It might sound like a great idea to have prisoners repaving roads, unless you work for the road department or own a paving company.
b) International agreements prohibit involuntary labor to be placed at the disposal of private individuals, companies or associations, so the state would have to create and manage businesses as part of some huge bureaucratic "rehab" program.
c) There's too much temptation for abuse, with the free labor going to the politically connected.
Just one problem there...
AMENDMENT XIII
Passed by Congress January 31, 1865. Ratified December 6, 1865.
Note: A portion of Article IV, section 2, of the Constitution was superseded by the 13th amendment.
Section 1.
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Christianity, ladies and gentlemen. It makes people enslave each other and deny other people their humans rights.
All the more reason to stamp it out.
This is not slavery, it's indentured servitude. While real Christianity is against any true slavery (Ex. 21:16), including the racist slavery that existed in the past in the US, and still exists many places, there is nothing wrong with servitude. While Huckabee is not a true Christian, this is not an unBiblical idea!
Churchy:
"Non-violent criminal behavior? So that would include all those hedge-fund managers and others who engaged in financial activities that cause the stock market crash and housing bubble? We can close all those country-club minimum security prisons that white-collar criminals are sent to? "
Correct. If Christianity was the law of the land, these people would've been cleaning toilets and Christian churches, and tending gardens in good Christian homes.
In the name of the Lord,
Jerry
@Churchy; Jerry
Apparently not.
“If they don’t have anything, we’re supposed to take them down and sell them.”
So yes, it's only the poor who'd be slaves, the rich can just pay off their sentence, which works so well for corporations. /sarcasm
And yes, Jerry, slaves. Indentured servitude is voluntary.
" This is not slavery, it's indentured servitude."
If they didn't enter the contract voluntarily of their own free will, are forced to work, punished if they refuse, and aren't allowed to leave, it's slavery. Eat a flaming bowl of dicks, troll.
@Sissy Jerry
"there is nothing wrong with servitude."
...then you won't mind in the slightest if you put on a French maid's outfit and do the household chores for my girlfriend, as her property. Slavery is condoned by your Lord, is it not...?! [/William Wilberforce ]
Fundie Christainity is dying, Jer. Here is one of the reasons why it is, certainly with your way of thinking contributing to it's destruction (otherwise, why isn't your country exactly as you would wish it to be?). Have you converted anyone here in FSTDT to your FAIL... er, I mean 'Faith' yet? Q.E.D.
The Church of England bishops & archbishops in the House of Lords dropping their opposition to S-SM here in the UK, thus ensuring that Bill in Parliament was passed & thus becoming legal. [/Romans 13:1-5]
So many changes in the C-of-E. So many compromises. So they've changed their attitudes . They're still here.
Change or die, Jer...! [/OSA S]
Huckabee Suggests Poor People Should Be Sold Into Slavery For Stealing
Said the man who wanted to free capital murderers because they "found Jesus" and freed a sexual predator who commited murder thereafter because he wanted to satisfy the anti-Clinton frenzy of supporters.
Jan Mickelson said earlier that illegal aliens should be claimed as property by the state and put to work as unpaid laborers. When someone protested that such a system would be slavery, Mickelson said, "What's wrong with slavery?"
@Canadiest
He's the devil we know. If you support him we know your an asshole or idiot or both.
My fundamentalist conservative sister supports him for president. I don't think it's so much that she's an idiot or asshole (though she did call gay people fighting for their rights "bullies") but probably brainwashed from watching Fox News.
If he rapes and kills you appoint them to high office though, right Huckafuckabee? You fucking facist shit.
@Jerry, fascist shit.
Indentured servitude only cover debt incurred by the chosen, the privileged natives of that society. Y'all seemed pretty pissed that the Egyptians enslaved Moses' contemporaries. Why?
Big fail with your myth there Jer, are you for real?
Others were worked to death, raped and abused otherwise without recourse or killed for a suggestion of independence.
Try again.
Confused?
