Islamism is a consequence of islam, just as fundamentalist christianity is a consequence of christianity (funny how we do not have an "-ism" word for it, huh?). They are simply extreme interpretations of the original doctrines. Both doctrines still contained germs of this BS. Any ideology is ultimately responsible for its consequences. Communism is responsible for its application in the USSR, in China or in North Korea.
This shows that all those ideologies are flawed - which kinda kills the divinely inspired argument - if they can be debased so easily. If a god cannot be bothered to take care of the post-delivery maintenance of its ideology, it is either simply a lazy bugger, or it simply does not exist and the ideology is something humans concocted (and a lie, since they claim it is a divine revelation...).
So, moderate muslims cannot wash their hands of islamists. What some imams did after the last attack in London was something I had hoped for a long time: they refused to give the last rites to attackers. F*cking finally! You are the depositaries of an ideology, take care of it, police its excesses. We keep saying NeoMatrix is an extremist atheist and we shut him up, other ideologies, in particular religions, need to do the same. Own up to the sh*t you cause or endorse or tolerate.
And yes, it is indeed a horseshoe, because extremists end up sounding the same, mainly because their source of inspiration is mostly the same (that bloody book, some people persist to call good, despite all the crap it contains and has caused). Women, homosexuals, unbelievers, their targets are the same.
