Quote# 76211

[History and the Flood]

Any dates of human civilization that conflict with the bible are wrong dates.
Its just incompetent research that has any peoples existing segregated before about 2400 b.c.
You don't know Egypt had society before this date you simply accept the authority of those who write about ancient egypt.

You mean the people who actually did the research?

You don't know Egypt had society before this date you simply accept the authority of those who write about ancient egypt.

Except we can go look at their research and see how they came to their conclusions.
They are peer reviewed.

We can even go to Egypt and see some of it for ourselves!

Ah, Byers. RatSkep's reigning king of making shit up. Incidentally this is the same Robert Byers who thinks polar bear were scared white by humans.

Tell that to all those ancient civilizations which existed back then.

And these are the people who claim that the bible is scientific.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djoser

There has been significant controversy about dating the reigns of the Old Kingdom, but radiocarbon dates now indicate that Djoser's reign began sometime between 2691 to 2625 BC.

The painted limestone statue of Djoser, now in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, is the oldest known life-sized Egyptian statue. Today at the site in Saqqara where it was found, a plaster copy of the statue stands in place of the original. The statue was found during the Antiquities Service Excavations of 1924-1925.

We have the statue. 200years more than your book claims. we win

"... you simply accept the authority of those who write about ancient egypt."

Like the ancient Egyptians who wrote prior to 2400BC?

Every Egyptologist, archaeologist, and history professor would like a word with you, Robert.

And ever hear of Carbon-14 dating?

Gee, my copy of the Bible doesn’t have the footnotes…you know the ones with all those dates on them…

"Any dates of human civilization that conflict with the bible are wrong dates."

I don't believe the Bible actually gives any dates. The best it does is mention events that happened which help historians place when that particular book/chapter/verse was written.

"Its just incompetent research that has any peoples existing segregated before about 2400 b.c"

You realize that "research" encompasses more than simply opening your Wholly Babble, right?

"You don't know Egypt had society before this date you simply accept the authority of those who write about ancient egypt."

Because those who write about it have generally spent a good portion of their lives studying Egypt and its history. I also accept the authority of physicians, mechanics, plumbers and others who have expertise that I don't possess. I'm sure you find that quite strange also.

EDIT: This was from Byers? Holy hell. I didn't even notice until I reread the quote and saw the attribution. I'm impressed, Byers. Generally you can't form a complete coherent sentence to save your life, which is normally why I can spot your posts a mile away. Keep up the good work!

It's a well known fact that the real world is only for realists, logicians, scientists, atheists, and possibly Liberals, homos and abortionists. For the rest of us upstanding, God-fearing, fearful, servile, and intolerant simpletons, the imaginary world of magic and make-believe with its mixture of violence and injustice is just the ticket. We drooling God-dolts laugh most heartily at your Darwinistic light years and know full well the true distances involved, distances which can more accurately be described as being a few dozen or so cubits at most.

Place your faith in the fantasy Heaven which will be yours one day. You can watch in total bliss as your child undergoes an eternity of the most horrid torture imaginable in hell. See your best friend writhe in hellfire as you smile contentedly to yourself at the sheer heavenly pleasure you feel. Sorry to harp on about Heaven.

I'm beginning to think that a non-religious account of the history of the writing and compilation of the Bible should be a required part of history classes in all US schools. They seem to think that it just magically appeared on a moutaintop or something.

It's only a problem if you take the Genesis stories literally instead of seeing them for what they are, Bronze Age fairy tales invented by ignorant Middle Eastern tribesmen.
since the bible is bullshit, I don't have a problem with the dates given by radiometric dating.

Um, we know that Egypt had a society before that date because we have their stuff to prove it!
