Quote# 74719

When I decided to homeschool my six year old son, I told him we were going to do "Dinosaur Week". Which turned into "Dinosaur Month". . . at the least! We watched "Walking With Dinosaurs" and a lot of other documentaries. He's a pretty smart kid, too, so even he ended up saying "Ok. Scientists say that God isn't real. They say earth is a kajillion years old. They say that people and dinosaurs weren't alive at the same time and that a lot of dinosaurs could have died from a big flood, but that The Flood didn't happen. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!". He gets really upset about people not believing in God - as in he doesn't want them going to hell and he can't believe people can ignore God all around us. Every time we watch one of those dinosaur things, he gives a big, overly-dramatic sigh whenever they start talking about "millions of years" or evolution.

One that really cracked him up was where they theorize about reptiles evolving into humanoid creatures. Good grief! And they teach most of this stuff as FACT in schools!!!! I can't believe it. Neither can a six year old. So WHY is it so accepted?!!?

I teach him what makes SENSE. NOT what science textbooks say. I also teach my kids to question what they are taught - especially what they learn in school. It's really not fun at all having a bunch of junior scientists in the house when 99% of science seems to be atheistic.

Your kid sounds like an alright type who's probably smart enough to one day throw off the bullshit you try to teach him.

Science isn't atheistic or theistic. It doesn't concern itself with questions of God's existence. You're free to say "This is how it happens because God wills it." Just know that science is only concerned as far as "This is how it happens."

Don't be so pissed not everything explicitly points to what you belive.

Because, as we all know, that's how six-year-olds talk.

Cute kid. I'm glad you teach you to question what he's told, because it'll be great when he's older, starts thinking for himself, and realizes that he was raised by a bible-thumping moron.

Onoz, a six-year-old is unable to understand a scientific theory. Guess we'd better scrap it, guys.

The real tragedy here is that 'hisprincess' functions on the same level as a six-year-old.

Science is atheistic?
It has no problem with 'believing' in powerful intangible forces and phenomena. Think of magnetism, gravity, microbes, neutrinos, radio waves etc.
Invisible light, unhearable sound, untouchable forces, not a problem.
The reason it 'believes' in these things but not in your God, is that observations of them don't always give the exact same result that you'd get if they didn't exist.

Science is about as religious as collecting pennies. BTW, I look forward to the day when your son realizes he's been had and throws out his old beliefs.

six year olds believe lots of stupid things. the fact that you agree, says more about you than it does about him. you're supposed to DISCOURAGE the irrational beliefs of your children, you know.

I wonder what a six year old has to say about quantum physics.... oh wait, no I don't.

The fact that the kid gets upset when people don't believe in God is a problem. He's going to have to learn (and quick) that not everyone is a Christian and that to live, work and contribute to society, a person has to come to accept and respect those differences.

I feel like raising a child to be so vehemently against evolution and other such science is a huge mistake. Not only from the perspective of responsible parenting, but from a socialization standpoint. The theory of evolution is more and more becoming a thing that all intelligent people are expected to believe. It's becoming a social standard. Cutting your child out of that is not a good idea.

Scientists say that God isn't real.

Neither scientists nor the scientific community at large say this. They have no way to test this posit so science is not interested in the existence of God.

He gets really upset about people not believing in God...

Get used to disappointment, kid.

...as in he doesn't want them going to hell...

My ultimate destination in the after-life (if there is such a thing) is my own personal business. Please get your son's nose out of it.

...and he can't believe people can ignore God all around us.

Where are you looking that you find "God all around us?" At the grocery story? At the ice cream shop? At the gas station?

...they theorize about reptiles evolving into humanoid creatures.

"They" were Sid and Marty Krofft. "Humanoid creatures" were the Sleestak from Land of the Lost. I think you and your son are watching too much old-school TV. Even if not, no one claims humans evolved from lizards. Birds perhaps, but not humans.

Facts don't stop being true because you don't want to believe them. The facts are that dinosaurs lived several tens of millions of years before man set foot on this planet, that the global flood of Genesis never happened, and that mankind evolved from more primitive organisms.
Science didn't set out to disprove God but in the process of discovering about our universe, it ended up disproving huge chunks of the Bible.
You aren't doing your son any favors by raising him to be a moron.

You're quite right to let your son grow-up to be an uneducated simpleton, and you've every right to boast about it on the Rapture Ready site. In any case, he'll have no use for knowledge as a drooling cultist. Imagine the look on the faces of me and other atheists when we look out the window to see God's chosen ones floating by, giggling inanely in the nude as they prepare to clasp. A look of delirious anticipation on their faces as the knowledge that their soon to be eternal mansion haunting is almost upon them. He's a rum old cove that God, isn't He?

There's no need for your little boy to become a burger flipper. Have you and he ever considered him having a potentially short career as a trained canon-fodderist? Only downside to that is that he might not survive long enough to enjoy the whooshfest, even though it will be pretty soon now. And people say that religious cultists are loonies just because they prefer supernatural magic to natural science.

By the way, my condolences to the cult members, particularly members of your own family, who have recently died of old age. What a shame, they lasted all this time as true believers, but sadly, they've missed out on the big day. I hope they didn't go to the trouble of writing all those special letters and messages for the left behind. Never mind. At least your son will enjoy the great day? Well, more likely his children? Maybe your great grandchildren? Well, perhaps the great, great grandchildren? Well, how about whatever beings that mankind will evolve into several million years down the line? If we last that long. Note for Rapturians, particularly HisPrincess's son, million just means lots, ie. more that ten.

PS. I hope that this has been helpful to you in fulfilling your monthly quota of persecution.

You may also want to teach him these handy phrases which will come in handy for him when he's out looking for a job. "Paper or plastic?" "would you like to supersize that?".. good job mom, you're raising an idiot.

Science does not have to make "common sense."
In fact, science mostly looks for things that are hard to discern, and even contradict "common sense."

For instance, you have two groups of people, and you ask both of them to creatively solve a problem. One group, you offer a monetary reward for the fastest people, and the other not.

On the average, the people who are offered the reward took 2.5 times longer than the people who weren't. This has been repeated many times with the same results. Does it make sense? Not really. However, science follows the evidence, not commons sense.

gah, here's a tldr

I hope your kid does keep questioning what he gets taught, including the things he learns from the Bible. But! Wouldn't that make him curious...like a scientist, perhaps! Oh noes, stifle that shit now!

Scientists, in the name of science, most definitely DO NOT say that "God isn't real." If you've taught him that then you are forcing him to choose between God and science, a choice which is not strictly necessary.

Science makes no claim about the existence or non-existence of God. The supernatural is outside the boundaries of science.

Are many scientists atheist? Yes they are, but many are also believers; science itself is silent on the question.

Uh oh, dangerous combination which could backfire.
I predict that he will go against literal belief in the bible, maybe even against christianity, as soon as he visits college, gets out of your indoctrination and learns the truth about science (not the lies you feed him ;) )
