I read in the Star-Telegram that henceforth the YMCA would be renamed and identified as the "Y."
I have for some period of time been concerned about the silent and pernicious effects of secular humanism. These effects go beyond removing from the record any trace of Christianity. Most threatening is the fact that secular humanism will take from us God-given rights and substitute the governmental state as our creator and source of authority. It seems to me that renaming the YMCA is like building a mosque next to the 9-11 site. The only difference is subtlety.
Christians need to recognize that they are systematically being redirected to secular humanism and a totalitarian state.

But if you keep the name YMCA, everyone is systematically redirected to the Village People. And you might not want that.

"...renaming the YMCA is like building a mosque next to the 9-11 site."

So you're saying it has no impact on you, your religion, or your country??

Most people have been calling the YMCA "The Y" for a long time now. You just want to build up a persecution complex.

So the one-letter song will be sung from now on by The Village Person?

OH! How secular and totalitarian.

The govmint didn't have anything to do with the name change and it's prohibited by the U.S. Constitution from hindering, or endorsing, the building of a Mosque or any other place of worship. Ol' Jerome should seek help for his persecution complex or, at least, read the Constitution.

What the hell does one have to do with the other? I'm not seeing the connection.

We called it the Y years ago when I went to it as a kid. And you know what? I didn't remember seeing any Christian influence there at all. Comparing it to church, it was pretty much the opposite. So apparently the Christian part had already been excised.

YMCA became the Y quite some time ago, didn't it?

It was a haven for gay sex anyway; the Village People even had a song about it. I don't know what you're so upset about; I'd figure that taking the "Christian" bit off such a gay place would make you happy, since they aren't claiming to be specifically Christian anymore.

Wow. CALM DOWN. It's just the Y.

And see, I call it that because EVERYONE calls it that. It's a handy nick-name that's very, very common. That's probably why they're changing it in the first place.

My grandfather called it the Y. What year are you writing from, Jerome?

Or maybe they want to be inclusive, and offer a safe place for everyone, which is more Christ-like than you'll ever be.

Stupid mofo, I grew up calling the YMCA 'the Y', and it was awesome!

... Damn, now I'm missing their pool and weight room. I want to go for a swim now.

I didn't even realize that it had still officially been the YMCA, since I've only ever heard it as the Y.

Anyway, dude, chill out. I know this is some sort of 'srsbsns' to you, but its not persecution. Promise.

...any trace of Christianity...

Any trace of Christianity at the YMCA vanished the moment a notoriously gay band wrote a notoriously gay song about the oodles of gay sex that could be had there.

Very subtle indeed.

First of like 90% of the people who go or have gone to the YMCA call it "The Y" anyways.

What the FUCK?!

People actually still call it the "YMCA"?

Not once in my life have I met someone who didn't just call it "The Y".

Did someone forget to change your nappies? No? Then what the hell is all this crying about?

the YMCA would be renamed and identified as the "Y."

Okay, and? Wait, that's it? THAT'S what you're throwing a shit-fit over? Geez, I don't want to know what you do when they cancel one of your favorite shows.

I have for some period of time been concerned about the silent and pernicious effects of secular humanism.

What's wrong with secular humanism? You do realize that the golden rule is one of its tenets as is the rule to do no harm.

These effects go beyond removing from the record any trace of Christianity.

Oh for fuck's sakes. When humanists start shutting down churches then you can complain, not when a Christian company decides, of its own volition, to change their name to something that everyone's been calling it for decades anyway. The only people that have a right to bitch are The Village People who have lost the reference in their song "YMCA".

Most threatening is the fact that secular humanism will take from us God-given rights and substitute the governmental state as our creator and source of authority.

Uh, hello? The US already is a secular country. It always has been.

It seems to me that renaming the YMCA is like building a mosque next to the 9-11 site.

In other words a perfectly legal action that doesn't affect you in any way yet you choose to make it seem like the end of the world? I guess it is kind of similar.

Christians need to recognize that they are systematically being redirected to secular humanism and a totalitarian state.

This HAS to be the most lol-tastic thing I've read in a good long while. Wow, talk about overreacting! A company changes their name of their own free will and suddenly the US is a fascist state. You're hilarious.
