Quote# 73028

As a Christian and as a public servant, I have never wavered in my belief that this world and everything in it is a masterpiece created by the hands of God. As a member of the Alabama Board of Education, the record clearly shows that I fought to ensure the teaching of creationism in our school textbooks. Those who attack me have distorted, twisted and misrepresented my comments and are spewing utter lies to the people of this state.

Alabama already has the worst, or close to the worst, educational system in the USA. Why would you want to make it worse?

Way to attack those you disagree with by distorting, twisting and misprepresenting their comments...

Unless of course you meant religious studies textbooks, then I'll let you off.

Yup, that Ebola virus, the smallpox virus, and the aids virus are truly masterpieces, made by a benevolent god.

As soon as creationist have produced a Theory of Creation, using all steps of the scientific method, it can be taught in schools.

If you don't like distortion, twisting and misrepresentation, is your first agenda, when you are voted into office, to put a stop to Fox News' Right to Lie?

...but remember, creationism is NOT religious dogma!

There's nothing to distort, twist or misrepresent: teaching creationism as valid science is against your constitution, not to mention ridiculous and will get you a generation of backwards morons.

Dover Area School District tried the same thing in a legal court and lost.

As a Christian and as a public servant, I have never wavered in my belief that this world and everything in it is a masterpiece created by the hands of God.

What does your status as a public servant have to do with your faith?

As a member of the Alabama Board of Education, the record clearly shows that I fought to ensure the teaching of creationism in our school textbooks.

Then you violated the rights of your constituents.

See, Brad...there's this thing called the Constitution. It's the law of the land, and it forbids you from doing what you just said you've done.

Those who attack me have distorted, twisted and misrepresented my comments and are spewing utter lies to the people of this state.

Given what you yourself are saying, I doubt that they'd need to misrepresent you to make you look bad.

It's amazing to me how somebody like you could have a career, let alone a governorship.

I fail to see the qualifying factor for being a public servant or a christian.

More apt: As a guy who likes drawing boobies, I have never wavered my belief that boobies are awesome.

"As a member of the Alabama Board of Education, the record clearly shows that I fought to ensure the teaching of creationism in our school textbooks."

Which is why you should have been automatically disqualified from serving on a school board. And assuming you're going to try to force religion in other areas of government, you should be disqualified from holding any office.

But I at least have to give you points for admitting that you were trying to get schools to teach creationism and not hiding behind the "intelligent design" moniker.

Important Context: This was this guy's response to his competitor, who is even more conservative than Byrne and complained that Byrne was a commie atheist. If Byrne hadn't said something like this, he would have already lost in Alabama. (He probably already has.)

So wait, someone attacked Byrne by claiming he wasn't completely blinkered against reality and his response was basically "That's not true, I'm just as stupid as the rest of you!"

Believing everything was created by God and believing He created everything by magic exactly as it is today or believing He did it exactly as described in the Bible are not the same thing. In fact, the Episcopal Church, of which Byrne claims to be a member, said in Resolution A129:

"Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That the 75th General Convention affirm that God is Creator, in accordance with the witness of Scripture and the ancient Creeds of the Church; and be it further, resolved, that the theory of evolution provides a fruitful and unifying scientific explanation for the emergence of life on earth, and that an acceptance of evolution in no way diminishes the centrality of Scripture in telling the stories of the love of God for the Creation and is entirely compatible with an authentic and living Christian faith; and be it further resolved that Episcopalians strongly encourage state legislatures and state and local boards of education to establish standards for science education based on the best available scientific knowledge as accepted by a consensus of the scientific community; and be it further Resolved, That Episcopal dioceses and congregation seek the assistance of scientists and science educators in understanding what constitutes reliable scientific knowledge."

"As a Christian and as a public servant, I have never wavered in my belief that this world and everything in it is a masterpiece created by the hands of God."

Obviously you've never examined it very closely.

"As a member of the Alabama Board of Education, the record clearly shows that I fought to ensure the teaching of creationism in our school textbooks."

Remember that when you're fired.

"Those who attack me have distorted, twisted and misrepresented my comments and are spewing utter lies to the people of this state."

I'm not sure clearing it up as you have has done you any good either.
