God is very clear on the fact that humans get 6000 years to attempt to rule ourselves. This is the six days of man. The Bible teaches that to God, in 2Peter 3:8, “a day is like a 1000 years.” And on the 7th day, the 7th 1000 year period, we get our rest, when Lord Jesus returns. I suspect we are very close to our 6000th year, but not quite. You would have to leave 7 years out for the tribulation, so at the very very latest, we could be in the year 5993, by God’s reckoning. It’s so hard to tell what year we are in from creation, since the calendar has changed so many times, also, since the day of creation, I suspect that the earth’s rotation has slowed quite a bit. Notice that during the tribulation, the Bible teaches that the “days will be shortened by a third”, which means that instead of a 24 hour day, we will have 16 hour days. God tells us that unless this shortening occurred, then we’d all perish. He will shorten the days so that the 7 years of the tribulation will be shortened. Perhaps the earth will accelerate on her axis after being struck by what the bible calls a “flaming rock from the Heavens” (space), which “blazes like a torch”, obviously a comet.

Yes, that's crystal clear. Now go have a cookie.

If the day is shortened by a third, then the night is lengthened by a third. This is a phenomenon that occurs in the median latitudes every year. And it goes the other way too!!!1!
Flaming rock, a comet? Try "gassing snowball".

Oh, now it all makes sense.

I love it when fundies read Revelation literally, but then I remember that they take it all seriously.

Rofl. The huge problem is humans have been on this planet virtually as we are now for about one hundred thousand years.

The verse he's quoting is
‘But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.’
Isn't taking things out of context fun?

If the earth spins faster, it would make the year have more days. Unless that supposed comet brought the earth in closer to the sun, making the year shorter. But that would cause the earth to heat up, and everything would die. Unless he *somehow* dropped the power output of the sun...
Or, the whole thing is bullshit. Guess which one is infinitely more likely?

Rotations in Revalations! The Earth's day is getting longer because of tidal friction- the oceans act as a brake on the Earth- but only by 1 ms per century. A very long time ago, it may have been 16 hours, but that's in the rear-view mirror and we'll never see it again. Looks like there's no science in the Bible.
