Regarding Idaho faith healing laws that allow parents to deny their children lifesaving medical care
State Rep. Christie Perry, R-Nampa, looked at it from the parents’ point of view.
“They are comforted by the fact that they know their child is in heaven,” Perry said. “If I want to let my child be with God, why is that wrong?”

Oh beloved Lady Bastet, Mother of Cats, Daughter of Ra, Protectress of House and Family, oh Cutest of all Divinities, hear my prayer!
May Christie Perry be barren! May any child she may have be taken from her custody! May she never be in a situation that would put her in charge over the well-being of another living being nor one where she would have an opportunity to decide over life and death!
"they know their child is in heaven"
Unfortunately, BELIEF, no matter how strong, is NOT the same as knowledge.
So, this is why you are the only country in the world to not have ratified the Conventions of the Rights of the Child? You want to reserve the right to neglect your children to death, and not be hindered by pesky "Best Interests of the Child" nuisances?
It sounds like Rep Perry sees no wrong in outright killing the child either, as it will "be with God".
But, I bet she(?) is an avid anti-choice supporter...
"“If I want to let my child be with God, why is that wrong?”"
Because you let your child die you fucking moron.
How about I kill you so you will be with god?
*kills Perry*
*Perry is standing in front of Allah and realizes all that praying he did just made god mad*
It's wrong because they've destroyed the child's potential. To use the old argument from anti-choicers, what if your child would have developed a cure for cancer, created a masterpiece of art, or helped institute world peace? God gave humans the ability to develop life-saving medical care; why would you refuse to use such God-given techniques?
Because their child would still be alive if they let the doctors do their jobs? Why is this so complicated an issue for some people?
These people remind me of a story. There's a massive flood, and a guy is stranded on their roof. A boat comes by and offers to take them to safety. They refuse, saying God will save them. Same thing happens with another boat and a helicopter, each time with the person insisting they're fine, God will save them. Well, they die. When they get to see God, they ask why he didn't save them. God replies that he tried, sending boats, a helicopter...
Then again, people like this wouldn't ask and would only briefly wonder why God is facepalming...
If they're really like this, why don't they just admit that abortion "sends babies to god faster"?
Seriously, people like this should be locked up. It's one thing to believe you're going to paradise when you die. It's another thing entirely to tell people it's good to believe they have to die as quickly as possible so they can get there asap.
Because you allowed your child to die. Look I don't care what your beliefs are, you should be trying to do what you can to help those in need. Hell your own Bible says in Matthew 25:41 that the least you do for these you do for me. On top, even as someone who believes in an afterlife myself, you need to try to do the best you can on this world. In this life. Allowing child to die is not doing that. Finally if you want to stand behind this you will want to drop the whole pro life thing
Abortion: "Oh won't somebody think of the little tiny babies???"
Faith healing: "Meh, they'll just end up with god anyway."
If I were a suspicious man, I might think this disconnect were a sign of some kind of... ulterior motive. But no, that can't possibly be true.
@Swede : No, it's for an even more ridiculous reason: because obviously any whiff of inter-government cooperation is OF TEH DEBIL and will lead to the END TIMES when Jesus and the Devil get in a pissing contest and God wins which is... bad for... some reason... and that's about all I know.
But realistically, it's just a convention, it doesn't do anything. (And if you're seriously telling me that countries like Iran and North Korea actually signed it, I can only conclude they did so with fingers tightly crossed.)
Do be quiet, my little Idaho potato. If you have to ask that Q, you don't deserve to know the answer.
It's reasons like this that convinces me that "belief" is the most dangerous thing in the world.
That is wrong, because society owes a duty to protect children. Yes, that means protect them from their parents, where necessary, and in your case, it's obvious that it's necessary. To follow the laws of your religion, as in any other solemn oath, requires the consent of an adult. Your child cannot consent to be treated as a disposable sacrifice to your god.
Yet you oppose abortion, which according to your beliefs, would send their souls to heaven sooner without regard to that whole sin/eternal justice thing.
The cognitive dissonance astounds.
Confused?
