[Would you rather have a not so bright Christian leading the country, or a smart atheist?]
I'll go with the not so smart Christian.
Atheist have no solid moral base to stand on - they change their idea's of what is morally permissible with science or politics. This is due to a lack of objective truth (God) and no sense of ultimate justice for our wrong doings. No matter how smart the world thinks an atheist is, remember he is in reality, insane.

Congratulations, you've got one now.

I don't know about everyone else, but I don't do this.
"This is due to a lack of objective truth (God) and no sense of ultimate justice for our wrong doings."
Whereas your sense of justice is allowing someone else to be punished in your place for *your* (supposed) sins. Yeah, that's justice all right. Excuse me now while I go rob the local bank. I'll give them your name and you can take my place in prision since, according to you, that's justice.

And fuck you too, Geocajun.
Vote 1: Pope!
OK I cannot believe you just said you'd like to stick with the values of a primitive society - ban the fucking hospitals - go to a temple and get oil rubbed on you when you're sick.
You also clearly have no idea what the hell morals are if firstly you think atheists don't have them, and secondly 'God' does.
Finally, how exactly is not beleiving in impossible, primitive, anthropomorphic superstition insane?
Please take your interpretation of reality, and remove it from actual reality forthwith.
Ah! The old classic 'atheists are immoral.'
Let's see what kind of moral foundation Christinanity has historically put forth.
1. Slavery is perfectly acceptable.
2. 'Witches' should be brutally beaten, sexually abused and humiliated, then killed.
3. People who don't follow biblical teachings should be forced to submit, or be killed.
4. Scientific studies should be suppressed.
5. Anyone who isn't Christian is going to hell, anyway, so they should be treated as sub-human.
6. Etc., etc.
Personally, I think the following pretty well sums up 'Christian morality':
All your sins will be forgiven, so go ahead and do whatever you want, just as long as you repent afterward.
God delivers the ultimate truth/justice. Therefore we go and kill all non Jewish living in Israel, kill all who do not believe in God, rape who you wish as ;ong as you pay a fine and marry the girl/woman, keep slaves and behave like a total asshole as long as you keep in touch with god every now and again.
I'd go with the smart guy. After all, the Xian believes in heaven, hell, resurrection, talking snakes, talking donkeys, burning bushes that talk, flying rolls that burn the houses of thieves, acceptable genocide, acceptable infanticide, acceptable rape, slavery, etc.. Atheist in general, do not. Be careful who you are calling insane.
An atheist can have a firm moral base, he/she just doesn't let an ancient fairy tale dictate it for him/her.
Ugh. Being a liberal means that I believe that people have inaliable natural rights (life, liberty and property) that cannot and should not be removed by anyone or anything. If I can't build a moral code around these basic principles, then you can't use your Bible!
Actually, twit, it's the Christians who have no moral base to stand on. God doesn't want you to be moral, just obedient. Remember: If God tells you to kill your son, do it. Questioning authority is wrong, even when the orders involve murder. The authority is always right. Just obey.
That doesn't sound like morality to me.
OK, asshole, shall we have a look at the superior moral values of your "not-so-smart Christian leadership"?
- Coveted Iraqi oil resources (and Iran's for that matter)
- Bore false witness about Iraq in order to launch war (and has begun full on propaganda assault on Iran).
- Murdered tens of thousands of innocents in said war.
- Stole previously mentioned oil resources (at least the funds from those oil resources aren't making their way into the hands of the rightful owners, the Iraqis).
That's four commandments, just for starters, five if you add taking the Lord's name in vain for the bit about "Doing God's work" in the "war on terror" (an oxymoron if there ever was one).
Well, in 1564, I could get imprisoned for not being a Protestant or on trial for saying that the Earth orbits around the sun. And don´t you think that Christianity doesn´t change with science or politics?
This is due to a lack of objective truth (God) and no sense of ultimate justice for our wrong doings.
I honestly can't understand cognitivism. How can a moral statement by true or false? No, your God doesn't count, He pulled it out of thin air, too.
I started laughing at the absurdity of this, until I realized that people actually vote with this mentality.
Then I was just depressed.

I have no problem changing my ideas if new evidence is given to me to prove that I was otherwise wrong. Now if I keep to the same course with the same idea and ignoring evidence, now that is stupid, it's like invading Iraq or something!
"I'll go with the not so smart Christian."
So your going with war, high gas prices, national debt, and a struggeling economy?
Do us all a favor and don't vote this next time.
"Atheist have no solid moral base to stand on..."
*headdesk*
RELIGION AND MORALS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER!
UNDERSTAND *NOTHING!*
Your believe in said religion does not make you moraly higher than anyone else.
What objective truth did Christian G.W. Bush use when he manipulated my country into invading Iraq?
Haliburton's stock reports, among others.
People you disagree with are insane. Comrade Stalin would approve.
If Christianity didn't change with science and politics, not only would we have burnings of perceived heretics as Matilde pointed out above, we'd still have slavery. Arguably Christianity would never have become the state religion of the Roman Empire and from there grown to dominate Europe and later the world if it had taken a liberal view of slavery in the early years - yet in the 19th century Christians were among its most vigorous opponents! What's that if not changing with politics? (And to a lesser extent science, because a certain book published in 1859 laid the groundwork for the view of humanity as a single race, with nobody created inherently inferior.)
I am an athiest. I am twenty-four years old and have maintained much the same concepts of right and wrong for most of my adult life. I am not morally ambiguous. The things I thought were wrong yesterday I feel the same way about today. Religious people, on the other hand, seem to think that attaching "God said so" to any thought, word, or deed makes it righteous, even in the face of all visible evidence to the contrary. Some broad examples...It's okay to burn folks at the stake...God said so. It's imperative that I reject my kid/sibling/friend for being gay/athiest/whatever...God said so. It's cool to rape a child if it's under the auspices of a church-sanctioned marriage because...yep, God said so. If this is the type of behavior your "God" condones, (even encourages!!!) then he must not be half as great a guy as everyone says. I, on the other hand, have always regarded things and ideas such as the examples given above to be the actions of a truly morally bankrupt person. But then, I'm not a "Christian" so I guess the problem is with me.
Confused?
