Well then, I wasn't expecting this to devolve into a discussion on the moral implications of suicide, and I really don't want to get involved, but I'm going to speak my piece.

If I had to guess, this person did not commit suicide only because of what was said to them online. I would be willing to bet money they've been given shit their whole life, and this was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back. Also, I can't believe this person is being maligned as somehow weak or stupid for having committed suicide. I get that lots of people believe that suicide is the coward's way out, but I don't think that people deserve this kind of animosity for it. I'm saying that as someone who has contemplated/attempted suicide before, has a sister that has attempted suicide before, and has lost a friend to suicide.

If this person really did commit suicide based "solely" on what they were told on the internet, I'm also willing to bet they had some sort of mental illness going on prior. You don't just read something nasty on the internet and go, "Oh, they hurt my feelings, guess I'll go kill myself now." If that was the case, graveyards would be overflowing.

I'm not saying that we should revere people that commit suicide, or not be angry at them that they did it, but as someone who has "been there" there is a lot more going on, and people shouldn't be called pussies or insulted after the fact for what they did. I'm not saying what they did was right, but they don't deserve to get shit on for it. Six years later, I'm still mad at my friend for what she did, and I still don't know why she did it. Knowing her, she somehow thought that was her only option. I am angry, but I'm not going to say that I'm somehow better than her because I managed to survive and persevere through all the crap I myself have been through. There are people that for one reason or another are plagued their whole life with suicidal thoughts, and it isn't because they are weak. Again, I'm not saying it's right, but you can't just simplify it like that.

As far as this being a place of compassion, aren't we all here to call fundies out on their bullshit and THEIR lack of compassion and humanity, not to exhibit those same traits ourselves? Aren't we all on the same side here?

Wow. You really don't understand why people become suicidal. This person was harassed by more than one detestable fundie via the internet, apparently, but it's not as if that was the only factor that caused them to have suicidal thoughts and what ultimately drove them to commit suicide. Severe depression and the belief that it is impossible to escape from this pain is the main reason people resort to suicide. You aren't better than a person who committed suicide simply because you haven't succumbed to it. If you can't understand why people believe it is a good idea to kill themselves then you should be thankful.

DeviantArt has always had a sinister, sexually perverted vibe around it. When my children lived at home, they were not allowed to have DeviantArt accounts.

This story is very sad, and no one should have to endure this kind of bullying, whether they are gay or straight. However, the best (and sometimes only way) to honor someone who has taken their own life is to tell others about Christ, so that they may have hope in this life and in the next. I cannot help but think how this might have turned out differently if the victim had been a Christian and known the love of Jesus. I pray that God will give their soul mercy and peace, but if they died in a state of unbelief or did not repent of their homosexuality, then I fear they may not be in heaven.

Well, Israel is not united under a charismatic dictatorial leader who wishes to kill all Palestinians and stamp out dissent. If anything, it's the Palestinian government that wishes to "stamp out dissent." I would be fine with a two-state solution if the Palestinians can come up with a government that can actually hold itself together and afford the people basic liberties present in Israel. Which, before you ask, I do indeed believe is very plausible.

And your characterisation of the Japanese as "not a race but a disease" because of the actions of one government is truly, truly redolent of the shit spewed by Islamophobes, which I guess you kind of have a thing against, to put it one way. Hell, when you think about it, it's very much like Nazi propaganda against Jews thinking of them as a disease that needs to be exterminated. BS on both counts, but no surprise since you are just another bitter individual with a need for attention of any kind.

1. While the Israel government does have their more questionable moments *cough* illegal settlements in the West Bank *cough* the Palestinians terrorists organizations are not much better (and possibly even worse, given their rhetoric about pushing the Jews to the sea and stuff).

2. The current relationship between Japan and the rest of the East Asia is strained by their current government's whitewashing of their recent history. Also, Imperial Japan was/is seen as extremely evil for their actions in the 1930s-1945 was because they were acting barbarically in a supposed civilized era. That being said, demonetizing a entire ethic group for what their ancestors did is unacceptable in this civilized day and age (though their current government's whitewashing of their history is a bit worrying, or maybe that's just me being bitter since my ancestors were on the short end of the stick no matter which one you look at). All that being said many Asians still prefer Japanese made electronics and other applicants for their high workmanship (except in the case of Koreans concerning vehicles, they always buy their own country's brand).

I'd say it's a mixed bag. Ignoring some trolls works. If they don't get the validation and reactions they're looking for they get bored. Ignoring other trolls doesn't work; they step up their game, going as far as to harass people off of the original forum, in an attempt to push their trolling.

I think it wouldn't hurt to at least attempt ignoring this one and seeing which flavor he is. There is, after all, a way to make this site read only to certain users. If he's a flavor two troll I'd suggest that course of action.

OK seeing just how insane this entire thread got, I will finally say something I wanted to say for a long time. Now, I know VERY WELL what it is like to be bullied. And, I must say it IS hard for me to sympathize with this person. This person had literally millions of chances to save themselves. They could just ignore it, alert mods/admins, even call the fuckin´ police. Or they could simply NOT GO on DeviantArt. It was really easy, yet they killed themselves over it. But, I ultimately do sympathize with them. They were probably just like me in elementary school (THANK GOD, that period of my life is over), an oversensitive wreck thinking every single second of their life over things other people do to them, and in the end, doing crazy shit like this while they could ridiculously easily stop their problems.

As for Israel, I would hate to see it go. The most democratic state in the Middle East (possibly the only democracy there) as well as the most developed. Also, it treats Palestinians better than most other minorities in the world and even the majorities of some other Middle Eastern countries (I'm looking at you, Saudi Arabia and Iran). It guarantees freedom of religion and other rights not guaranteed by many other countries of the Middle East.

You want to talk genocide, Israel is far and away above the total erasure of Japan from existence when it comes to its actions toward Palestine. Plus, unlike with Japan, there's human loss as a result of that genocide.

Remember, though, we all have to put up with Israel. Because it's already common knowledge that if we ever were to act against them they'd simply nuke the entire world out of existence. After all, they (Not they, but let's pretend) were threatened by a now extinct power and thus have free reign to simply annihilate humanity at will.

It's a shame Palestine isn't as developed as Israel. It's a matter of funding, really. Oooh, yea, you see....
I don't hate anime, and I defend it constantly, simply because it's a very large and varied medium, so hating it is absurd. But.... I have never watched an anime I have actually liked. They would always start out good, and then degenerate before too long. Especially Neon Genesis Evengeleon.
Also, GTA isn't "vapid" per say. It actually has a lot of social commentary and satire. The problem is that they aren't very good at it, so it ends up being idiotic.
Honestly though, it scares me how much I go against the grain on certain aspects. I could make a very good troll, if I chose to do so. All I'd have to do is mention that I hate Stanley Kubric's work and everyone on the internet would hate me.

I don't see the point of criticizing games because they're popular or cash cows. I'm a massive Zelda fan, for one, but that might just be because I'm a sucker for fantasy in general. Hell, my username even comes from Skyrim.

That being said, I still don't really like Call of Duty... it has all the repetitiveness of Mario without the interesting character and level design or the massive levels of unabashed, highly-concentrated adorability. Grand Theft Auto? Eh... no opinion on that one. Assassin's Creed is all the sandbox I need, anyway. c: (The first one kind of sucked, though.)
