\"Liberal\" seems to be just used as a universal insult these days, often with little or no connection to a person's political identity (which often may be quite unknown). It is rapidly becoming the tag projected onto someone to signify that he deserves (in the mind of the projector and those who think as he does) to be hated; it is a tool of political and social bigotry.
For the life of me, I can't understand how the word has gotten so pejorated. Look up the word in any dictionary; I would be proud for anyone to call me a \"liberal.\"

Ok, I have checked the original post and I think that it is more or less what you guys are claiming. This guy doesn´t live in a bizarro universe because he honestly doesn´t think that Phelps shares John Kerry´s ideas or he is in favour of homosexuals. He just employs liberal as an insult and equates everything I don´t like or find repulsive=liberal. And it goes the other way round too. Many people from the left tell fascists to anyone they don´t like so they call as such to Pol Pot, or to Castro. Well, Bush himself calls the terrorist Fascist muslims.
