Quote# 94310

The director of issues analysis of the fundamentalist anti-LGBT American Family Association (AFA) on Wednesday refused to answer a “simple yes or no question” about whether he had ever had a “gay impulse.”

Liberal radio host Alan Colmes pointed out that AFA’s Bryan Fischer could set an example for gay men and lesbians by explaining when he had chosen to be straight.

“Have you ever had a gay impulse?” Colmes asked.

“Alan, I am not going to talk about that,” Fischer laughed. “Alan, I’m not going to go there! Give it a rest!”

“It’s a simple yes or no question,” Colmes observed.

“We’re not going to talk about that,” Fischer insisted.

“Because maybe if you’ve been able to overcome your gay impulses and you’ve been successful in doing it, you could be a model for other people you’d like to see act the same way,” Colmes pressed.

“The focus here, Alan, is that everybody experiences sexual impulses that if they acted on those impulses, it would destroy them,” the anti-LGBT crusader declared.

“Well, can you give me an example from your own life? What would be some of yours?” the liberal host wondered.

“You’ve experienced them, I’ve experienced them. Every man, every woman has experienced certain sexual impulses that, if they acted on them, if they conducted themselves by yielding to those impulses, it would destroy them,” Fischer replied. “Ask Tiger Woods about that.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever had sexual impulses that would destroy the society or the culture or make me a deviant in some way,” Colmes quipped. “I wonder what impulses you’re talking about. If you’ve had them, I’d love to know what they are.”

“Well the focus Alan is on sexual conduct, sexual behavior, not on sexual impulse,” Fischer explained.

“So you won’t tell me whether you yourself have been able to overcome a gay impulse?” Colmes tried again.

“Alan, give it a rest,” Fischer snapped.

Who's surprised? Time and time again, the most hate filled bigots are trying to assuage their own bible-fueled guilt by projecting it onto thers.

So after casually saying that the sudden urge to have gay sex is like some sort of ridiculous whim that can strike anyone at any at any time much in the same manner as a craving for donuts and ignored just as easily Bryan proceeds to flounder like a fish when asked if he could possibly have personal experience to back up his certainty of his statement rather than talking out his ass.

And really, asking if he's ever experienced the desire to sleep with another man after claiming it spreads so easily is less disturbing than considering what other horrible impulses he might be personally referencing.

That question should certainly bother him less than asking if he's failed to supress same impulse. Of course, evasiveness pretty much answers both.

"“Alan, give it a rest,” Fischer snapped."

That sounds a little fischy to me. I'll take it as a 'no'.

This looks like latent, suppressed homosexuality, but let's be honest - given Fischer, it could just as easily be pure, fanatical prudishness.

Still fundie in either case.

See, Bryan, a straight person would just calmly answer, "No, I haven't ever had a gay impulse."

Aha... if he hadn't ever had a gay impulse, what's so hard about just answering "no? If he would have answered, then Colmes would have moved on to other questions. But methinks Mr. Fischer would have felt guilty answering falsely.

I don't think it's correct that homophobes are secretly gay, but in instances like this where someone running a rabidly anti-gay organization can't deny that they've ever had a gay impulse, it shows that he's so deep in the closet that he's finding leisure suits from the 70's.

Reminds me of that study that homophobes get turned on more when watching gay porn. No, Bryan not all people have homosexual impulses. If you've had these impulses you're just gay, and that's fine. If you keep all your other positions we will still think your a parasitic oxygon thief.

Fischer can't answer this. If he says yes, it reveals him as unpure and the right will reject him out of hand. If he says no, it reveals him as talking out of his ass the entire time and he loses credibility.

So him not answering the question is the only thing he can do to save face.

As per the likes of Bryan Fischite, P-G - with his own obsession(s) with Teh Ghey - is a Closet Case so blatant, even Stevie Wonder could recognise it.

Bryan's refusal to answer an ultra-simple 'Yes' or 'No' question has already answered it for him. And it's a Yes.

As a certain someone already has...:

Fred Phelps & the WBC = all homophobes. And speaking as a straight person who doesn't have a problem with LGBT people, my answer to the question is 'No, I haven't'.

See, Bryan? Hasn't killed me. But then, LGBT people having equal rights hasn't affected me in the slightest.

'But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.'

-Thomas Jefferson

'But it does me no injury for my neighbours who are of the same gender & consenting to do what they want in the privacy of their home. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.'

-Anon-e-moose

...there, that should annihilate any & all arguments to the contrary, should the Closet Case P-G dare infect this thread.

@doomcup

"So him not answering the question is the only thing he can do to save face."

Which is why right-wing fundies don't - or daren't - answer questions to our satisfaction. Argumentally cornered like this, they know that if they did, they'd have no alternative but to destroy their own unjustifiable 'beliefs'/politics and become left-wing Atheists. They know they're wrong in every conceivable way, but they daren't say so.

Like I say, in refusing to answer that question 'Yes' or 'No', Bryan's already answered it. And certainly destroyed his own argument, Subconsciously. And argumentally cornered in this way, he's already lost face; one word: Perception.

...but hey, one long-time Christian asked questions that were a little too lethal, 'beliefs'/doctrine-wise. He's still here, still unharmed, despite becoming an Atheist. The only thing destroyed being his 'beliefs'.

Your call, fundies.

He just said that everyone has gay impulses. I'm pretty sure he's referring to literally everyone, including himself. But that doesn't make him, or anyone else who thinks having gay impulses is normal, gay. I think they're more likely to be bi.

If he can't answer with a simple "no" then I'm afraid it illustrates perfectly that he's a closeted, self-hating gay person, especially since he claims that "everybody" has those tendencies. I can honestly answer "no" to that question as a pro-gay-rights heterosexual person.

I think Bryan Fischer is just another Ted Haggard. Maybe he should talk to Ted to find out what he did to become completely heterosexual.

A person can have a few gay impulses in their youth and turn out to be 100% straight. It's all a part of growing up. More people should accept this fact.
