For my part, i actually think that Christian heretics deserve the death penalty, but given our social and legal context, that is impossible. It is not "murder" to put someone to death for killing someone's physical body (after a fair trial where a person is given the chance to defend himself, of course), nor is it murder to put someone to death for killing someone's soul by indoctrinating them into real heresy (also after a fair trial with the ability to defend oneself--something that the Genevan city council gave to Servetos, but something the Roman Church did *NOT* give him when they condemned him).

My question for Treyfrog:

Does it really matter, anyhow? Either you were born God's chosen, and are going to heaven, or you weren't, and are going to hell, right? In that case, you don't kill someone's soul by indoctrinating them into heresy; if they go to hell, they were going to hell regardless of that, and if they were going to heaven before that, well, they'll still go to heaven, right?

Isn't that sort of what predestination means?

And, further, shouldn't you (treyfrog) kill yourself? After all, if you are predestined for heaven, committing suicide won't change that, and if you're predestined for hell, it doesn't matter if you kill yourself, right?

Hmmm. I guess the \"killing yourself\" part only works if he's one of those many fundies who assert that, without god/religion/whatever crap they're advocating, there is no meaning or purpose to life, and that we atheists (usually defined as \"anyone who doesn't believe exactly what I believe\")are therefore nihilists and should kill ourselves.

And no, I don't really want him dead. I just want him to go away.

Okay, I vote we get all the Christians together and have them explain their beliefs one-by-one. Anybody who is then described as a heretic by two or more other Christians is then sentenced to death.

It's the only way to be sure that all the heretics are weeded out.
