Plus, they like to restrict women's mobility & sexuality (hot lovin' isn't so hot if it results in an unplanned pregnancy)...then there's the clams that the churches can get from members.
Thus, birth control, childlessness, small families & sex for fun/as a form of affection-alone is anathema.

yes , 3.2% of all deaths in Canada or caused by rogue bear attacks. There are many unexplained deaths in cities like Montreal which are easily explained by rogue bears coming in to the city.

Population is a historical form of power. Before industrial revolution, everything was manpower intensive. So more pop was more power, thus people still think it is power. Despite it being 200 years or more sense this idea was rendered false.
Russia has been run shitty for a while. It needs a restructuring to function better. Though any nation that large is going to be underpopulated.

Every year, the Russian population is shrinking by nearly one million and aging. Very soon, it can never recover and just die.
With a population of 143 million I'd say that "very soon" is a bit of an overreach.
I believe that Russia’s attack on Israel as described in Ezekiel 38 must come soon, or Russia will never be able to mount such an attack.
First, there is nothing whatsoever in Ezekiel that states or inplies that Russia will attack Israel. Second, the population of israel is barely 8 million. And third, Russia has no earthly reason to want to attack Isreal in the first place.

Russia hasn't been atheistic since the fall of Communism and Russians are (or were, anyway) some of the most socially conservative people around, with divorce being extremely rare.

Russia's low birthrate and declining lifespan are the result of post-Communist social instability, economic turmoil and the collapse of the state-sponsored health system. If atheism is the cause of all that, John Mcturdman, explain why China's population is still swelling.

Communist states, Romania for example, were often committed to the most brutal natalist policies. You know, ones that *increase* the size of the population. If population levels are related to Russia's past, it is because of the *end* of communism, as 1) life expectancies deteriorate because of the collapse of the social and health systems; 2) people are allowed to leave to work elsewhere; 3) in some areas, birth control becomes more available; and 4) people's economic situation changes.
America's population is not decreasing. Much of this is thanks to immigration which brings many benefits.
Russia is not leading the way; there are several countries with declining populations, such as Germany, that have shown this trend for some time.
Zero for demography, zero for political analysis and zero for Biblical accuracy.
Russia is the East, stupid. A small part of it is in Europe, sure, but the largest part is in Asia. It's the largest country in the world and the nith most populous. The part that is in Europe is still one of the most populous countries in Europe. The decline in population has stagnated, and the population might now even have started to increase somewhat. Birth rate is higher than the average European birth rate (12,6 per 1000 people, compared with 9,9 per 1000, for year 2010).
Why would Russia attack Israel? As most Russians are Russian Orthodox, their holy city is in Israel.

So, let me get this straight... Russia needs to start having more babies so they can start a war with Israel and make you happy? I just don't understand the idea among Christians that a nation with hundreds of millions of people is having a population crisis? Or are they just jumping on any story about lower birth rates to turn it into an anti-abortion argument?

It never fails to amaze me that the same people who gripe about low birth rates are the same people who complain about their taxes being used to support poor people with large families.
You can't have it both ways. If you want people to have large families you have to be prepared to support them.

Fun Fact... Soviet Russia was about as religious as the US of the same period. Despite claims of it being "Godless" there were more Christians in just one denomination than any US denomination you care to mention... even the Catholics were dwarfed by them. (damned near half the USSR population were of that denomination... beat that, oh so religious USA)
This is why I can't stand American fundies. They make us all look stupid to the entire world. Russia is a great nation and culture. I am glad the Soviet System failed, but heartbroken at how awful the corruption is. It is crippling any real progress toward political and economic stability and growth. I hope fervently that these hardworking, brilliant and warm hearted people (who are majority church attending Christians)get a fucking break and can live in peace and prosperity...which is like a 1000 years over-due for them all.
