"he took his family to a church where the religion seemed to be America-hatred"
And that is different to Jerry Falwell's "9/11 was America's fault for not banning all the stuff I don't like" how?

We are, after all, a biblical republic.
Um, no. Where is the word "bible" in the Constitution?
The idea of America– freedom, equality, democracy, and America as the promised land–grew straight out of the Bible.
Again, no. There is no freedom in the bible. Everyone has to do what God/Jesus says, or else. There's no equality, either, since there are many stories of "God's chosen people" slaughtering neighboring tribes, as well as homosexuality being an "abomination." Democracy? Again, no. The Israelites decided to worship a golden calf in Moses' absence, and when he returned he made them stop. So much for democracy.
Obama is the first American president to put all that stuff behind him.
Which is exactly why I'll be voting for him again. I don't want a theocracy.

You mean like the verses about owning slaves, not having other gods, not wearing clothes of blended fabrics, women being forced to marry their rapists and God hardening people's hearts? Because none of that sounds like freedom to me. In fact, the whole religion revolves around 'obey or die (or get tortured for eternity)'.
As for American Zionism, American Exceptionalism, the city on a hill—it is one part of the American creed that Obama simply rejects.
Good, because that shit's insane to believe in the face of facts. We're good at some things (commerce, military) but horrible at others (education, healthcare) and if we pretend we're perfect then we'll never fix our problems.

Treaty of Tripoli. Article II, first sentence.
This is not a biblical republic, and is in no sense founded on the christian religion. So Sayeth Congress.

What happens when they realize that the phrase "American exceptionalism" was minted by Stalin to express contempt with American diplomacy? It's nowhere near as ancient as "city on a hill"...which was about being an exemplar to everyone else, not an archon over everyone else. And this is the first I've heard of "American Zionism".

[Obama] is post-religious: he took his family to a church where the religion seemed to be America-hatred.
Meh. Rev Wright is certainly hateful, but Obama's not the first one to go to hate-filled church. Most Republicans seem to go to one as well. The only difference is that Obama's was not white.
There are no biblical echoes in his speeches, as there have been in the speeches of so many presidents, left and right, and such other American leaders as Martin Luther King.
This isn't a bad thing, as not everyone in the US believes in the bible.
“Pandering to religious nuts” is the way PORGIs analyze such references. Another way to describe them is quintessentially American.
I'll actually accept this. While not every one does believe in the bible, a great majority do, and there are very few Americans who've never heard of it. Using biblical references is a quick way to be understood.
We are, after all, a biblical republic. The idea of America– freedom, equality, democracy, and America as the promised land–grew straight out of the Bible.
Sorry, there is nothing in the bible regarding freedom, equality or democracy. Slavery is endorsed in the bible (read Philemon), equality is only before God, and even then, it's only after salvation. As for democracy, Jesus is your King, not your president.
Obama is the first American president to put all that stuff behind him.
No, he's really not. Thomas Jefferson spoke out against Christianity. John Adams did as well (I think), and I can't recall off hand if George Washington did or not.
As for American Zionism, American Exceptionalism, the city on a hill—it is one part of the American creed that Obama simply rejects.
As well he should. These are very dangerous concepts that led us to invade Iraq for no reason, and are causing other countries to fear us. This fear (among other things) is what led to 9/11.

First amendment AND Treaty of Tripoli say not based om Bible. Though there was a time this country was. During that time democracy and equality and freedom were not even words. The accused of witchcraft were usually killed. The Bible is NOT the model for freedom, democracy or equality

"The idea of America– freedom, equality, democracy, and America as the promised land . . " Women, slaves, Native Americans, and the inhabitants of most of Centraland South America, not to mention the Phillipines, would like to express an opinion on this
" –grew straight out of the Bible.
That book where you have one religious kingdom after another, and just about everyone get smote? Sounds like a cross between the Republican Party and an NRA convention, alright!

Please name the biblical verse where any republic or democracy is mentioned.
It is my fondest hope that the President is actually an agnostic, and goes to church for political expediency.

"freedom, equality, democracy,"
None of these concepts are really protrayed in the Bible as we know them. If they are, it is simply that god's chosen people should be free and deserve this land, or that land etc.
Lol at "biblical republic".

Considering the Bible endorses neither freedom, equality or democracy, I think you're pulling the whole Biblical republic out of your ass.
However, the Bible DOES say leaders were put in place by God. So I guess God's A-OK with Obama.

Good, means that he actually takes his job seriously enough to know and respect your constitution's first amendment.
“Pandering to religious nuts” is the way PORGIs analyze such references.
And recent US history shows that this analysis is accurate.
Another way to describe them is quintessentially American. We are, after all, a biblical republic. The idea of America– freedom, equality, democracy, and America as the promised land–grew straight out of the Bible.
Treaty of Tripoly, bitch!
Or in a word: WROOOOOOONG!
Obama is the first American president to put all that stuff behind him.
Good!
As for American Zionism, American Exceptionalism, the city on a hill—it is one part of the American creed that Obama simply rejects.
It would be good, if it was true: if the US could finally get it through their head that they're just another country, powerful, yes, but not divinely inspired or inerrant, we might finally manage to make some progress. And if they'd drop their support to the (no other word for it) criminal regime of Israel, thing could perhaps finally settle down a bit in the Middle East...

Just looked on that searchable Bible site.
Freedom: Leviticus 19:20
And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor FREEDOM given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free.
Acts 22:28
And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this FREEDOM. And Paul said, But I was free born.
Equality: 2 Corinthians 8:14
But by an EQUALITY, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be EQUALITY.
Democracy: No results.
America: No results.
I'm unconvinced.

"We are, after all, a biblical republic. "
Oh how I wish we could go back in time so that you could say that to Jefferson, Washington, Adams, Monroe, and most of all Paine.
It is so funny that people such as yourself were screaming about how secular our new government is during our founding.
