A bit of xenophobia might be hardwired into us, as a safety measure; to be somewhat suspicious towards strangers at first. However, as most people are fairly decent, when you get to know the new people, you ought to lose that fear.
For hundreds of thousands of years, very few people met with people who were VERY different from themselves. An Australian Aborigine had a very slim chance of meeting a Northern European before steam ships were invented. So no, "racism" is probably not hardwired into us.
People probably become glassy-eyed and slightly faint when you start to preach. "Oh no, not a fundie racist! Get me out of here now, please."
