Anyone who's been married knows that a marriage "contract" is indeed worth quite a bit in the eyes of the law. There's a wide range of financial benefits.
Anyway, expelling divorced women from churches is a great idea. Ought to cut church attendance by a quarter.

Divorce technically does not violate a marriage in the eyes of the lord. It simply means that the couple is separated indefinitely. However, remarriage of any party counts as adultery and is therefore a sin.
