"You have a baby with a disability? You're on the hook for all medical expenses; insurance won't pay, because you "should have put it down"
Actually insurance wouldn't pay before because a disabled child could be considered a preexisting condition.
Hell some pregnant woman couldn't get insurance because pregnancy is a preexisting condition.
Oh how I wish people such as yourself would disappear from the planet.

"I believe, as time goes by, people over the age, of say, 70, will not get to choose. They will be denied ICU stays, operations, dialysis, surgery, etc. They will slowly be led from "right to die" to being put down; and eventually everyone who isn't working and paying X amount of taxes will be denied medical care and killed. "
We already have that, it's called conservacare.
"I pray we are raptured first."
Your prayers failed. Have you tried Allah? Maybe he gives better service.

This is what I mean. You look at us with shock and horror. We still don't have universal health care, and Obamacare is worse than nothing at all. I don't want to be American anymore. We haven't held the moral high ground since the sixties.

No. That's what's happening now in the US. You lose your job, you lose your health insurance.
They will slowly be led from "right to die" to being put down
By whom? What doctor or hospital wants to give their most lucrative customers to the funeral parlor? Do you think an oncologist, faced with a patient with a cancerous tumor, is going to say "heck, don't waste $60,000 on surgery and chemo. Go home and die."?

And yet, this doesn't happen in any other country with universal coverage (like, every civilised country on earth).

Because expanding health insurance to people who cannot afford it will ensure that people who cannot afford health insurance are executed.

Yes of course, because this is exactly what happens in all countries that already have socialized healthcare (i.e. healthcare for all citizens), right?
Wrong!

What kind of insanely pernicious political propaganda machine is it that has managed to convince people that the things that are designed to help them are actually going to hurt them?

I believe it was Paula Poundstone who said, "So what you're telling me is, that the people who deny me healthcare will be wearing slightly cheaper suits?"

The only reason it has successfully happened in America is because Americans are uniquely stupid amongst Western nations. It is impossible to convince large numbers of Europeans that reactionary politics are good, but this is the default belief of Americans. Everything that a civilized country would do, America does the opposite. Only America throws its weight around and acts like an imperialist hegemon; America is the sole reason that Africa and the Middle East are so screwed up. No matter who is the president, there is no real change. The only way I will be able to regain my sanity is if I leave the United States forever.

After the 'I believe' section, there is supposed to be a 'because' section. Without a basis for the belief, the belief can reasonably be considered 'insane'.
Also note how the rambling post progresses from 'I believe' to 'it's going to be'. Evidently, their fundyism has blurred the lines between imagination and reality.

How much time?? It's been over 60 fucking years since we got the NHS here in the UK, and none of the crap you're spouting has happened... hell, quite a few are being FORCED to have treatment when they just want to end it.
Sorry bitch, but your fantasy ain't gonna happen any time soon.

Wow. You really want the world to end because a law didn't go the way you wanted? Fuck you, man. This law is actually good for people with disablities. I can't tell you how many times my brother's been refused certain things because of his autism.

I read RR 9ugh) and the link to the Daily "Hate". It was a report by a senior doctor of how people were put into a course of treatment that would end in their deaths. This was meant for the terminally ill of very old age to allow a gentle way out.
The doctor claimed some were being put into it early: there has been a resounding silence from all responsible authorities. Either he is sensationalising (and looking at the paper reporting it, I wouldn't be surprised) or there is a massive cover up by all parties including the ethics committees, the unions, the police etc, etc

No, we held the moral high ground when we had Johnson's Great Society.
@ everyone else:
If America had kept its social programs and improved on them, like Europe did, then I would love this country and be even angrier with the reactionaries who want to destroy it than I am now. However, they have already pretty much destroyed it. For some reason, the American people are unique in despising the basic principles of civilized society: that poverty is a societal failing that should be eliminated, that religion should have no influence in government, and that nobody should die because they cannot afford health care. Even the oppressed people under the iron heels of dictatorships want those things; they are just denied them by their governments. In America, however, you see white trash, who would have everything to gain and nothing to lose from the adoption of European social policies, speak out the loudest against them. Not a day goes by where I do not hear news of yet more reactionary successes in destroying American democracy. Stopping them looks like it will be as futile as stopping Hitler's rise to power in the twenties. I am sorry if calling 'em like I see 'em has pissed all of you off, but if I thought this country could be fixed, I wouldn't be commenting.

True story, a lady at work (I work in health insurancey kinda field) spent minutes deriding the entire system and how horrible it is yada yada. Then she says something about the upcoming decision on ACA. I suggest she's probably hoping for a change. She says, I kid you not, "that would ruin everything!"
