Abstinence ed has been tried for donkey's years. It doesn't work and never has.

Maybe it's me, but the better preventative metaphor seems to be comprehensive sex ed, not abstinence.

Pretty darn sure this, or something just like it, was submitted a few days ago. I clearly remember the wildfire analogy from earlier.

Yeah, but forest fires are going to happen and not taking any action to mitigate the damage is fucking stupid. They're teenagers, they are going to fuck each other. Give them the knowledge necessary to protect themselves.

“Safe” sex education – or promoting casual sex, while handing out condoms and birth control to kids – is analogous to passing out matches to kids in school, and telling them, “Be sure you play safely with these in the forest and, above all, have fun!”
As per a previous (but very related) quote, the only question I can ask is this: Has equating Safe Sex Education with forest/wildfires suddenly become the latest Faux News propaganda BS, now that Obamacare has been ruled constitutional?! (and thus their previous black propaganda has ultimately availed them naught)
Someone has heard the old joke 'Do you smoke in bed? You don't? Well then, you don't rub hard enough!' and thought it was fact.
Hell, I lost my cherry when I was 16, to the school's resident hotty. But at least I had a condom to hand. And the way she took the initiative, nay, effectively was in control (the way she stripped me of my clothes; and was astride me, 'Cowgirl'-style), trust me, there was nothing casual about it. :9

What school board in the country that teaches sex education also encourages casual sex? I'm goddamn sick of this Puritan mentality that any kind of sexual pleasure outside of marriage is bad.
Oh, and the real metaphorical matches are abstinence-based curricula. Expecting people to not have sex until marriage is about as realistic as expecting every high school graduate to get accepted into Harvard. Jesus.

I guess they haven't heard that part of wildfire prevention includes controlled burns.

the correct analogy is that FotF start praying and trusting in God rather than the fire service et al - a bit like abstinence only rather than teaching about condoms.
The question is, why does FotF hate god? Why don't they trust him to protect them, as they trust him to keep those kids away from teh SECKKXS

The only "matches" I can think of would be to hand out prostitutes, porno tapes, lubricant, and fertillity meds.

"Wouldn’t we all agree that it’s better to prevent a forest fire, if and when possible, than treat the immense damage in its aftermath? "
No we wouldn't. You idiots are pulling out all the stops to convince people that the cause of these fires doesn't exist.
Enjoy your global warming.
The sex part of this analogy is the same. Eperience and evidence consistently shows education works, ignorance fails, yet you keep pushing ignorance and the fires keep burning. You never learn that prevention works better than fixing the problem afterwards.
And you're even opposed to fixing the problem afterwards.
Die in a Colorado wildfire caused by climate change you claim doesn't exist.

Proven fact: States with abstinence only sex ed have higher rates of teen pregnancy.
In other words: abstinence only education doesn't work.
Also, we do give kids matches and send them out into the woods. It's called Cub Scouts. Ignorant morons, I swear.

Because if you tell a hormonal teenager, whose brain is basically telling them to seek pleasure and take risks, not to have sex and not inform them of safe sex practices, they'll end up pregnant. Not that that's a bad thing, necessarily, just that not every teenager is able to handle that kind of responsibility yet.

What a fucking retarded analogy.
If kids uses those condoms, it won't lead to STDs or pregnancies at the same rate than if they didn't.
And abstinence education has never worked. Were you EVER a teenager?

Real sex education, with condoms and such, is not telling kids to go out and have fun. But it does work far better than telling kids to not have fun and believing that they won't just because you told them not to, and then wondering why your daughter is pregnant after you told her not to have sex.

Because if you don't tell kids how to be safe when it comes to fire, they will set the forest ablaze.

Wildfires occur as part of the natural process. The ecology depends on them to restore soil nutrients. Grass gets old and dry. Lightning, and, admittedly, man-made causes, start them burning. The land gets cleared of the old grass and the burned remains provide nutrients for new plant-life. It's been going on for millions of years. It's not the fires' fault that people build homes in inferno-land.

Absolute suppression of forest fires is a bad idea. Abstinence-only education is also a bad idea. They don't work well and they lead to bigger problems later.
