One thing Billy: The Vatican has institutionalized subversion of the law and put it's significant financial and political weight against whistleblowers behind the backs of it's own flock where your example doesn't involve an organized body but rather a series of sick bastards using shame and standard issue misplaced guilt trips as pressure.
Both are reprehensible and in dire need of reckoning, but only one has an official policy handed out in a newsletter. It's not quite a clear comparison.
