Quote# 87982

[Panetta] said this, “We are people with different values.” We’ll let’s talk about different values. When I came to Wisconsin way back in the 50’s, there was a story running around about a guy named Ed Gein who was a grave robber and his values meant that he would rob graves and corpses and the things that came out of the—well I don’t want to go further into that story—except it was you know it was his values after all. I mean what’s wrong with having values like that? Then some years ago ten blocks up the street from where we’re sitting right now was Jeffrey Dahmer, whose values were along the same line homosexuality but in addition to that, literally the cannibalizing and killing of human beings, dismembering their bodies and all kinds of weird stuff. But that after all we have diversity, right? We have different values.

Then of course we have people who have different values even in different venues. There are those whose values mean it’s very desirable and their own desire to molest children. We call them pedophiles. Because it’s a moral behavior or immoral behavior if properly defined. Its molestation but that happens to be their set of values and how dare we say anything about that. And then of course I don’t go from the sublime to the ridiculous here, but bestiality. Bestiality!

I mean this this is vile behavior. God says this stuff is an abomination and is sin, but of course if we no longer have a moral compass and we no longer have a God, we have a whole bunch of them and we can sit here and look at leadership, the highest leadership now in our country, that has literally voted for and has the legend has it the allegations has it that in his previous history, there are reports out even on YouTube of people who claimed to have engaged in this type of behavior with the President of the United States. These are allegations but they are out there.

When I when I think of what is happening here folks, when I see the moral fabric of our country literally in flames; how do you define morality? I mentioned the allegations that had been circulating about the past of even our President. And again, those are allegations out there. You can even go to YouTube and there are videos of those who have claimed to engage with certain.

He does make a point though - moral relativity is flawed in that any behavior is acceptable. We should be arguing that religion is a poor way to determine morality, not that morals don't exist.

My freedom to swing my arm wildly in the air ends at the tip of your nose. In your case I just might break the rules though.

I'm looking at the said moral fabric, and all I see is a bunch of apoplectic fundies whining and throwing fits on it. The fabric itself is doing just fine. Go directly to Fail.

I allege that back in college Vic Eliason smoked some PCP, dug up a grave, and molested and ate the corpse. Why won't he just prove he never did that??

Last night I went to a tea party with Sasha and Malia Obama. Pinkie Pie and Geoffory Giraffe were there too.

Hey, someone on the internet (me) said it, so it must be true!

Sorry, but you're using the word "values" totally wrong.

I used it like that when I was 10, then I got corrected. Grow up.

I think this a logical fallacy.(Relativist)
http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/relativist-fallacy.html

It's also creating a slippery slope fallacy since they are saying "Well, if we allow homosexuality because it's part of them and their values, then we'll have to allow everyone every kind of behavior that goes with their 'values'."

Homosexuality is not a 'value', it's a sexual orientation that one doesn't choose.

But robbing graves is illegal. Jeffrey Dahmer's actions were illegal. Bestiality is illegal. Molesting children is illegal. We have laws against such things. We passed laws against everything you're complaining about centuries ago. Where is the lack of a moral compass? Just because the cops don't catch every whack-job criminal doesn't mean we all agree with the criminal and want him to be encouraged. Whining and moral indignation about Jeffrey Dahmer doesn't add any practical help in stopping such lunatics.

Your problem is with local police, not the Federal government. Ironically, Republicans want to cut Federal aid to local police and let locals pay for such things themselves.

Religion has fucked up the minds of so many people in this country that they don't even understand where morals come from. Here's a hint, you won't find them in any ancient text.

Where do morals come from without God? Well, mine come from a rational understanding of the consequences of my actions and the effects that they have upon others. My morals also stem from a sense of empathy for other people.

You consider yourself only accountable to God, I consider myself accountable to the 6 BILLION OTHER PEOPLE who live on this planet, and the countless others who will follow.

These Bible-butts don't get it. Rather limited bunch, aren't they?

Reasoning with them is like reasoning with a turnip.

It's like teaching an old dog new tricks, or teaching a pig to sing or wear lipstick, leading a horse to water...or that parable from ol' J.C. himself concerning the pearls before swine or whatever.

These folks are just so brain-dead that it'll take a miracle to open their eyes.

"There are those whose values mean it’s very desirable and their own desire to molest children."

You mean like Christians?

"I mean this this is vile behavior."

Yes, Christianity is vile, what with Christians' fondness for raping children and animals. Not to mention lying about people they hate, like the President.

In other words, you, Eliason, are in no position to comment on anyone's moral fabric, let alone a nation's. Not as long as you belong to a child molesting, thieving, terrorist death cult.

By the way, good work conveniently leaving out that Dahmer was one of you, Christian.

Here's an idea. If an act hurts someone or another animal, regardless of what one's personal beliefs are, we can call that act bad or "immoral" if you like. It aint too hard to figure out, you know?

First off, homosexuality isn't a value, it's a sexual orientation.
Secondly, Gein was clinically insane and Dahmer certainly wasn't mentally well.
Thirdly, look up the concept of "consenting adults". Then shut the fuck up.

It makes you wonder though. Homosexuals with their continual grave robbing, their constant cannibalism, their ceaseless bestiality and, perhaps worst of all, their endless abominating. It makes you think doesn't it?

I bet Bible God wishes He wasn't so non-existent so that He could do something about it.

Vic, raping animals, kids, women or corpses does not fall under the same category as two adults having consensual sex because.

a) It's consensual and therefore not rape,

b) No raping, murdering or dismemberment is involved and...

c) Why are you so very fixated on all this raping, murdering, pederasty and dismembering anyway?

Sam Harris made an interesting argument regarding morality. Yours is childish. Adults talk about maximizing general well beeing. Safe, consentual homosexual sex increases well beeing of those involved without decreasing the well being of others.

Ah yes, the beautiful 1950's, where you didn't have to share water fountains with blacks, where McCarthyist suppression of speech ruled the day, and where homosexuals were egregiously but acceptably compared to murders and cannibals.
