Deuteronomy 17:15
"you shall surely set a king over you whom the LORD your God chooses, one from among your countrymen you shall set as king over yourselves; you may not put a foreigner over yourselves who is not your countryman."
Article II, Section I of the Constitution:
"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
I don't think "verbatim", means what you think it means, Barton. >_>
Also, where do I find this in the Bible?
Article III, Section III (The actual treason clause):
"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted."

David Barton has his head up his ass but the really sad thing is the yokels he talks to don't even know it and will never check to see if he's right or not.

To what depths are Christians willing to screech and lie to set up their tyrannical theocracy? Enough quarter has been given to such deceitful filth. Even I, who isn't a historian in any sense of the word, armed with nothing more than Google, know that there is no similarity at all between the document that governs our land, and the collective waste of paper that has enslaved countless societies.

There is a difference between King and President, no?
"Verbatim" means word for word the same. This is not the case with the text of the constitution. The Bible text talks about Kings.

if anyone's interested in a methodical, several-volume refutation of christian historical revisionism, i can't recommend Chris Rodda's work highly enough. she destroys Barton repeatedly.

Meanwhile, here in the cause and effect universe inhabited by sane people, the only mention of religion in the Constitution is explicitly exclusionary.
The Founding Fathers were pretty good at saying what they meant and they would have announced their intentions if they had wished to establish a theocratic state. They did no such thing so I'll continue to accept the simple fact that the Constitution is a secular document. That way I don't have to lie to myself or others.

Let's see, Deuteronomy 17: 15 says "you may indeed set a king over you whom the Lord your God will choose. One from among your brothers you shall set as king over you. You may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother"
It's verbatim if verbatim means nothing alike at all.

"You look at Article II, the quote on the President [having] to be native-born--that is Deuteronomy 17:15, verbatim.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Yeah, seems like fundies tend to not know what Bible verses actually say unless they're about gay people or non-Christians (as well as non-Jews in the case of the Old Testament).
Speaking of Jews, this was written by them. So if the fundie here were correct wouldn't the country be a Jewish nation and not Christian?
Edit: Oh, it's David Barton. Missed that. Eh, he's not work commenting on with all the male cattle poo that comes from his mouth.

Also for your reading pleasure, Article III Section 1 of The Constitution Of The United States Of America:
"The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behavior, and shall, at stated Times, receive for their Services a Compensation which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office."
Now, I never did get past the fifth time Leviticus repeats itself, so I'd like to ask someone if they've seen something like this in The Goddamn Bible?

The US Constitution starts out with the word "we".
In the Holy Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 2, vers 2, it says "we" ("for we have seen his star in the east").
OH MY GOD!! Both documents use the word "we" in them.
That's all the proof I need. The constitution is a divine document, written directly by God humself!
Halleluja and praise his holy name. Amen.

(From Deuteronomy)"be sure to appoint over you a king the Lord your God chooses."
Yes. I'm sure, seeing as how this nation was formed out of rebellion of a dictatorship, that the Constitution speaks of how to appoint dictators or kings. Clearly verbatim.

The Treason clause was added because the first act of a despot is to declare as treason anything he doesn't like. Insulting the president (or his family or friends)? Treason! Disparaging the "revolution"? Treason! Criticizing the government? Treason! The founders were smart enough to put a stop to that sort of nonsense.
You look at Article II, the quote on the President [having] to be native-born--that is Deuteronomy 17:15, verbatim.
OK, I looked. You have a strange idea of the word "verbatim":
Constitution: No person except a natural born Citizen ... shall be eligible to the Office of President
Bible: "Thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which [is] not thy brother."
So Barack Obama is George W. Bush's brother? The Bible seems to be supporting a hereditary monarchy - not surprising, since that's what the Jewish people had back in those days.

America will never be a sane country for as long as con artists like David Barton have power. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has more or less decided that no amount of religious favoritism, no matter how blatant, can go against the Establishment Clause. We have already lost. The US will never be like its comrades elsewhere. We at FSTDT are a tiny minority; most Americans agree with the fundies on at least some issues. Let the fundies have the United States, and let every rationalist move to Canada. You have to pick which battles to fight, and dragging the US into the 21st century is not a battle that any number of secularists can win.

This is why I despise David Barton far more than the Young-Earth Creationists. You listen to Ken Ham and Kent Hovind and it is screamingly obvious that they've never read a real biology textbook in their lives. But Barton is knowingly and willingly attempting to deceive people. He distorts and remolds history in such a way that it's clear he knows the truth and is desperately trying to hide it. He cannot plead ignorance of the facts; he knows what they are and is attempting to camouflage them.
