America has officially become Weimar Germany. There is nothing we can do to stop the Nazis, now that two separate groups have voiced their genocidal ambitions.

Brendan, stop being a drama queen. And even in 'Weimar' Germany, the Nazis could have been stopped. Should have been. But not enough people wanted to.

That doesn't really make it any better, you know...

Why are you christians so obsessed with beastiality?
"They should be put to death -- that's what happened in Israel, Knapp proclaims."
That's what happened in Nazi Germany too. Let's do everything the Nazis did.

@ Leighton Buzzard:
Correct. And considering how many Americans take the pronouncements of Fox News as Gospel truth and love Mr. Frothy Mixture, I don't think that enough Americans want to stop them.

Okay. We can go back to stoning all the people the OT says we should. But in exchange for our cooperation, we insist that we get to leave the gays until last. We'll start with a few other people the Bible says we should kill, first.
We'll be right over to get your disrespectful kids and your many philandering, adulterous fundie pastors and right-wing politicians.

Marriage is still a contract between two adult who intend to share the rest of their lives with each other.
Marriage has been "re-defined" numerous times, stupid. It has meant a contract between a man and several women, between a man and a young girl, between a young boy and a young girl.
Why not attack people who get married to a new person every other year, instead? They are definitely lying before the priest when they say "as long as we both shall live", and we all know what the Bible says about lying, don't we?

Why is it that so many of these Christian preachers pay no attention to what Jesus told them to do? They're trying so hard to do the exact opposite of what they're supposed to stand for and to teach.

While I think Brendan is being way over the top, it IS scary how many of these fundie pastors are unashamedly resorting to Nazi tactics.
@Brendan
Still, if you remember your history we put the Japanese in concentration camps even while we were fighting the Nazis. And before that we committed genocide against the Native Americans and moved them onto reservations. A few pastors TALKING like Nazis is historically rather tame.

Likewise, Tim Rabon, pastor at Beacon Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C., condemned states such as Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maryland which have already "re-defined" marriage to include lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) couples before asking his congregants, "What is stopping them from refining marriage from a person and a beast? We're not far from that."
I can tell you what's stopping them. It's called consent. Same goes for people who cannot or are not old enough to give consent as well.

"They should be put to death -- that's what happened in Israel," Knapp proclaims. "That's why homosexuality wouldn't have grown in Israel."
You mispronounced "Iran."
He continues: "Oh, so you're saying we should go out and start killing them? No, I'm saying the government should. They won't, but they should."
Oh, so get the government to do your dirty work for you. That way you can sit back and claim, "Hey, it's not our fault, it's the government doing it!" when you want to try to claim the moral high ground. I'm sure your god will see no difference in you personally killing people or giving tacit approval to other people killing those same people.
Knapp's declaration follows that of Charles L. Worley...
Similarly, the pastor's comments seem in line with statements made by Ron Baity...
Yes, the conservative Christians know that they're losing even more power and gay marriage & gay tolerance is a reality, so they're overreacting and showing everyone how truly crazy they really are in a desperate attempt to shove homosexuality back in the closet.

Anybody have the poster with Cookie Monster and the vegetables, caption, "WTF is This Shit?"
I know, "Not This Shit Again!" would be more appropriate, but if I'm not mistaken, a psychotic just suggested that the government do his murdering for him. Worse than that, he's still walking the streets and leading a band of semi-rabid idiots who can't tell a lunatic from a leader. So seriously, WTF?

Brendan, take off the jade glass and put away the nihilism for once. As a mostly lurker here, I'm getting butt fucking tired of it too. Yes, as a state sometimes NC sucks. But these people are usually being mocked for being stupid, at least amongst the groups I know. As for the pastors, they can go fuck themselves.

The first angry "loving" Christian talked about how to break a child's wrist should he display "homosexual tendencies".
The second played the old Leviticus lines calling for gays to be put to death out of "love" for gays.
The third went even further out of hand and advocated gays being put in isolated camps to die.
The fourth rejoiced with his congregation at a young child indoctrinated with hatred for gays.
And now, a fifth has advocated for flat out government sponsored extermination of gays.
Yep, we definitely have an infestation of angry and dangerous religious fascists here folks. Perhaps a deportation to Saudi Arabia is in order?

There is a growing majority in favour of gay marriage, and these rabid pastors are doing a great job provoking disgust in a lot of people who were still on the fence. I think they're marginalising their extremist version of religiosity even more.

Hate always becomes incredibly fierce before social change happens. It happened in the civil rights movement. The South got even nastier out of the "horrifying" realization that blacks will get their equality. But the violence turned off the moderates, and change happened.
History repeats itself today. With support for gay marriage above 50% (as Draken said), and the sitting President of the United States endorsing it, the fundies are terrified.
So they up the ante, and become even more vile, hateful, and genocidal in a vain attempt to keep the ban on same-sex marriage in place. But in their frightened zeal, they scare people away rather than win them over.
We're already on the way there, too. Parts of DOMA were struck down by moderate REPUBLICAN judges. DADT was repealed as well.
It's okay to be a realist, Brendan. But when the cards are lining up nicely, you must NEVER lose hope.
That is the main difference between realism and cynicism; cynics always look at the negative.
