I think the real issue is that she views herself brave enough to look down at gays with pity (or as she puts it, love). But feels threatened by people who can stand their own ground. (Yes I know gay people, if any, have proven time and again that they can stand their own ground just fine. I'm just imagine myself in her shoes)

I am a humble person, but not through reason! Christianists are poison!
They speak of reality with such unholy contempt, it feels almost impossible to forgive them for it. Nothing compels them... therefore there is no reason to mingle with them.
I propose--for all atheists--to initiate a divide between themselves and these psychotic people for the sake of their own well-being.
Honestly, at this point, I myself have made it a priority in my life to avoid them as much as possible, lest I become corrupted by that which they do best: poison others.
As will be the case for my [future] children & spouse, I will never associate with them.

If you're a Christian--which I assume is the case--then yes, it is wrong according to your buddy Jesus. There's several places that he's quoted quite clearly as saying that you're supposed to love your enemies and love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Yes, you are quite right to avoid atheists, there are many benefits in doing so, particularly for atheists.
For one thing, atheists can avoid the peculiar feeling of dislocation that occurs when seeing someone with the body of a human who is at least ten years old but is talking like a four or five year old. Also, the atheist, after recovering from the feeling of dislocation, may not have time for listening to humorous tard-speak, he or she may need to think about important human and reality related affairs.
The benefit for you is you won't have to feel crushingly ineffectual when you fail yet again to convince a reality-based person of the importance of your idiotic fantasies.
All in all, you should avoid atheists at all costs. You should stay in your lunatic fantasy world where you can feel safe and comfortable and unthreatened by harsh reality.
It's win win situation.
