They tried trial by ordeal--at Abu Gharib.
The United States came under unimaginable censure and lost face in the eyes of the entire fucking world over that shit.
What else would you call that deliberate dehumanization and desecration of prisoners' culture, if not trial by ordeal?
We HAD a Fundie president, and it nearly destroyed our nation. Not again. Never again, if there's a God OR a Heaven.

POEish. Consistent god-dependent morality works like this, but he seems too aware of it.
Oh, and the witch thing.

Thinking Allowed
You must understand God can not be evil. For he is God. He decides what is good and what is evil and he never does evil. Evil is the absense of God.
Really, that's not what your god says.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
If God decides someone has to die then it is God's will and it is good. Maybe they were bad and God wants to rush them to hell, or maybe they were about to encounter something terrible and God was getting them to heaven early so they wouldn't have to deal with it.
By that statement, you prove that your god not only created evil, but he is evil, especially with the point about rushing someone to hell.

If anyone, ever, was a witch with any kind of supernatural powers, history would be entirely different- and probably much kinder.

I would think a person's untimely death would be the most terrible thing to ever happen to them.
Please provide some evidence other than that historians don't think they were real witches and a few people (probably under the command of Satan) renounced their testimony.
Probably because witchcraft doesn't really exist? Nice "guilty until proven innocent" thing you have going there. I bet if you'd been accused of witchcraft back in the 1600's you'd probably be singing a different tune.

But wasn't it he who created evil?

How about you provide some evidence that they were real witches.

First of all, I thought Job made it pretty clear that current happenstances in life are not god punishing or rewarding you. but you're clearly insane. So whatever.

For all the jokes we make about the fundies wanting to take us back to the days of the Salem witch trials, I have to say I never thought I'd hear one of them actually wish to revive trial by ordeal, since most of them look out for number one first and foremost, and would know it could happen to them. Silly of me.

I prefer to think this is a Poe rather than think that anyone actually believes that we should have a justice system based on torture and chance.
If not, I accuse him of blasphemy, or giving me the evil eye, or being in league with Satan, or something, and he should be scalded with hot water. If the blisters don't heal by the trial deadline, then he should be executed. By his own logic, he must be guilty. If they do heal, then he should be executed anyway, because those who gave testimony about his innocence were probably under the command of Satan, and, anyway, he'll go to heaven in any case.
See, that's the problem with arbitrary justice. It can be turned on you.

You are an uneducated and ignorant idiot. There were never any real witches, they only existed in the minds of superstitious morons like yourself or in the lies of those who sought their property for personal gain.

If God decides someone has to die then it is God's will and it is good
So if I were to come to your house and slowly cut off your head with a dull rusty saw and you would finally die, a long painful death, I would be doing God's will? It would be good?
Btw, I hereby accuse you of being a witch. I demand a trial by ordeal. I'm sure you'll comply.

As far as the idea that there are no witches go, it's true that their practices are based in superstition, but there are people who consider themselves witches. I know many Wiccans who identify as "witches," so it's not accurate to say that witches don't exist.

Anon-e-moose, Hitler was not Christian. He professed Christianity in public to win support but his private writings revealed he was an occultist and a Theosophist. Look up "Thule Society and Hitler" sometime. It's an interesting and surprising bit of history.

Checkmate, God doesn't do anything grotesque like that. Remember, he allows us free will - if you killed someone it would be your own free will, and you would have to pay the consequences of that deed, whether in this life (by being sent to prison or executed) or in the afterlife (by being eternally condemned if you didn't repent of your evil behavior).

His4life,
I can't stress this enough: even if believing in God made one a wonderful person and doubting it turned one into a bloodthirsty berserk, there would STILL be no god.
