Nevermind the fact that they lost, this guy is drawing parallels between his own anti-gay agenda and defending slavery.
@Raised by Horses
I have long contended that the Union actually lost the Civil War, and as punishment are required to share a country with the South.

Funny you should mention Stonewall. We could use another one of those.

Because this anointing and restraining and holding back worked so well the last time in the 1960s. And the time before that in the 18 60s.

I may complain viciously about the state of this country and the people in it, but I have never once advocated treason. How can conservatives get away with this? We'll never have change for as long as Southerners think the Confederates, slave owners to a man, were heroes.

General Lee “had an anointing or something,” Engle said, “he was able to restrain Washington,
"Or something" is right.
And history repeats itself. Yet again the South will lose and end up worse than is was before, if that's possible.
Btw, the "agenda" isn't coming from Washington, it's coming from the states.

Given how obvious it's been for years that the South wants to refight the civil war, I think the Union should just let them secede this time. Allow open immigration from Southern territories for every sane person that wants to get the hell out of there and let them go.

@D Laurier: i doubt that, but i know that like sherman he was scared of blood. he was also deeply devout personnaly, but kept it for himself.
@ rizzo: aw, come on, what of the hidden abolitionists in the south? the underground railroad and all that jazz?
@OP: american history. you fail it. hard.
also, sounds like he wants to do a mix between the berlin wall and apartheid here:"Raise up a stonewall to restrain the agenda"

"During his speech at the Christian Broadcasting Network’s “Week of Prayer” yesterday, Lou Engle asked for support of his upcoming The Call: Virginia prayer rally, saying that Virginia should fight back against Washington D.C., just as Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson did during the Civil War."
I'm not sure you're aware of this, but Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackason fucking lost the war. Their example probably isn't the best to follow.

So you're happy with equating banning same sex marriage to slavery. Okey-dokey. Is it even fair to argue against these hyper-conservatives when they keep shoving their foot so firmly down their own throat?

OK, we'll give you Alabama so you can all move there and turn it into Alabamastan if you'll all then just shut the fuck up about what the rest of the country is doing. But don't ask for help when your own shitty country is driven into the ground.

To paraphrase George Santayana, "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." However, this statement could be applied to me as well; I once had the foolishness to think that the world has left such savagery behind. Silly of me.

...then Lee & Jackson LOST!
BOY! THE STUPID! IT BUUUURNS!
Dear, Mr. Engle, when you were in History/Social Studies class, you shouldn't have used it as an opportunity for a nice midday nap!
Maybe you should've used some Bible story with Bible characters that actually WON battles!
If Godde anointed ANYONE in the Civil War, it was Grant, Sherman, Thomas, Meade & Sheridan.
Now, YOUR God, "Fundy Bible-God" aka "AntiGod" aka "The Demiurge" aka "Ialdabaoth" aka "Samael" aka "Saklas" aka "Major Psychopathic Facist Asshole In The Sky Who's Mixed Up With The 'Loving True Parent Godde' In The Bible Because The Writers Were Losers" may have anointed Lee & Co. but...see...that's why they lost.
You're "God" is a LIAR & THE FATHER OF LIES! He's THE REAL "SATAN"...not the mythical being that rebelled.
HAIL LUCIFER - THE MORNING STAR!
HAIL JESUS - THE MORNING STAR!
JAI MAA ADISHAKTI/ARDHINARISHWARI - THE BRAHMAN/SUPREME GODHEAD! aka THE TAO, THE ONE, WANKA TANKA, EHYEH ASHER EHYEH/YHWH, etc. etc.
(those are my beliefs, though. Not everyone buys it but I respect that. Deeds not creeds.)
THE MORAL OF THE STORY: Don't sleep in school!

@Rizzo- no, they weren't all slaveowners. No, they weren't heroes, but plenty of them were ignorant dumbasses roped into the whole shebang by the slaveowners, or slaves pressed into service. And that's explicitly discounting the people actively working against slavery in the south.
Now the government, yes, that was almost entirely slaveowners, but just as not every person in the modern south is a homophobic racist hillbilly, not every confederate soldier owned slaves or even necessarily understood what the whole deal was about.

@ #1401411:
The abolitionists in the South weren't Confederates. The Confederates were the secessionists, which was not something that the abolitionists wanted. The OP is clearly comparing himself to the pro-slavery side of the war, which is what I take issue with.

Being from the South I'm used to some people talking like the Confederacy really accomplished something. I mean, we have a statue on the square of the town I grew up in that honors Confederate soldiers.
But they still *lost*. Not the best motivator for putting up a fight of any kind.

And we all know how that turned out. Unfortunately the north has had to drag the south around like a huge dead weight ever since
