Quote# 87265

The raging infant at the core of Tyler Clementi’s personality could not do anything but rage at the unfairness of not being able to enjoy both his religious mother’s unqualified love and the masochistic ecstasy of submitting to anal penetration by a disheveled older guy who still didn’t know Tyler’s full name, even after reaming Tyler’s anus on three occasions in Room 30. Tyler hated having to choose between Jerusalem and Sodom, between Saint Jane and the Marquis de Sade.

In his final hours Tyler Clementi chose to take revenge on those who were less than accepting of his minority sexual appetites: his mother, whose values had shaped his punishing conscience and Dharun Ravi whose only role in Tyler’s death drama was to heighten Tyler’s awareness of just how alien his appetites were to the 97% of humanity who are not homosexual.

Tyler’s self-scripted death drama was childishly simple, but airtight. Within the hermetically-sealed chambers of liberal group-think everyone would simply assume that just because Tyler’s self-imposed death came soon after Ravi’s Twitter bits that Ravi was responsible for Tyler’s death. The liberals would predictably fall prey to every idiot’s first fallacy of post hoc, ergo propter hoc reasoning: the fallacious belief that just because one event follows another, the second event must have been the consequence of the first. And that’s what happened. The well-heeled gay radicals tasted blood in the water and the eager-to-please left-leaning prosecutors were eager to gratify their feeding frenzy. Their scapegoat would be Dharun Ravi.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 21st, 2012. If Dharun Ravi gets prison time, then we should all fear for our liberty.

Sir, you have said some terrible, awful things. Tyler Clementi killed himself because he was terrified of what his parents would think when they saw the video. He was not ready to tell them he preferred the company of men.

And you know why? It's likely the same damn reason I'm not comfortable telling my parents I have no gender preferences at all: we don't know how they'll react, or we fear they'll react negatively. No young person who came from a loving family wants to destroy that love because they're not "normal." I'm eighteen, and while I've only ever dated cisgender boys, I'm pretty sure that someday I'll wind up in a relationship with somebody who identifies differently. Then, and only then, am I going to tell my parents.

I'm lucky. I can pass for heterocisnormative. When you're fully homosexual, like Tyler, that's either difficult or impossible.

Tyler's story could have been my story. It could've been my friend JT's. It could've been anybody's. That's why it fucking hurts when you try and twist it into something where Tyler wasn't the victim of a society that doesn't get that people like him, like me, exist, and that, otherwise, we're no different than heterosexual, cisgender individuals. Tyler died because society taught him to fear retribution for being who he was, to think of himself as less than the majority.

Rhavi's criminal actions provided a catalyst that led to a suicide. Those are the straight-up facts. Don't twist them.

Let Tyler rest in peace.

So you're saying the evil, vile, homosexual Tyler Clementi killed himself because of a combination of burning rage, a cold, calculated attempt to hurt the people around him in the cruelest way possible, and that the whole thing was ALSO an elaborate Xanatos gambit to get Dharun Ravi jailed to boot.

Fuck you. Whatever you're smoking, I don't want any.

@FTR...

The shorter, more comprehensive name for that bizarre standard of behavior is "Andy Schlafly Syndrome".

I am thankful that I do not live in a society that on occasion can show remarkable hatred and fear of homosexuality and and gay people.

When I lived in Ireland never once was I subjected to any disadvantage for being gay, although it was a strongly Catholic country for most of my 69 years. Now that I live in France, I am even more conscious that people simply have no interest in what is one's sexual orientation, so long as you don't copulate in public. It's a non-issue even in the tightly knit community of 300 which has taken my partner and me into their midst.

America, it is time to give up living morally in the 17th century. Your time there is up. Come at once into the 21st century.

He killed himself to bring attention to all the awful things someone did to him and that makes US look bad too but not to worry, these are the actions of a mere imbecile and we still look amazing.

Right?

Also, to inform all people: the video was of kissing. There is no evidence any sex happened. It is none of our business whether it did or not, but fyi Thomas here is making details up out of nothing.

We know nothing about any sex that was had, it certainly didn't happen three times because Tyler only had two dates, and the other party's identity has not been released, so who knows what he knew or thought about anything. Except really shitty that the kid wound up jumping off a bridge in connection with seeing him, which I think is a safe bet.

You don't even have the decency, or good manners to use a pseudonym!

This young man was killed by hatred and bigotry. If you cannot see that, then you are without a conscience, and therefore your sense of right and wrong is distorted and twisted into something that permits you to jeer at a young man whose a mind has been outraged by unfairness and uncaring mockery to the point where it cracks.

When a person becomes so despairing, it is a comment on the society in which he/she lives. Clementi's death is a comment on the lack of adequate anti-hatred laws/laws to protect minorities. It takes a longer stretch of the imagination that boggles the mind to assert that someone killed themselves to 'make the US look bad'. People kill themselves because they see no alternative - no escape from mockery, hatres and bigotry. And for this reason. yes, it does look bad. It looks as though there is a sufficient mass of those who are homophobic. That does not negative the existence of those who have a more civilized view and regard baiting gays in the same way as Jew baiting - a sport in Europe in centuries past. Past forever, one hopes.

Whatever the court may have decided, I hold that everyone has responsibility for his/her actions. I go further. If any action drives someone to the deperate act of suicide, then s/he has that person's blood on his/her hands - regardless of any court judgement. In other countries those who hounded a young man to his death would be held responsible for that death. Obviously the law is different in the US. But that doesn't alter the morality. Hounding someone to death is despicable and evil.

@ Xotan:

I think the anonymous poster was being sarcastic. He qualified his statement with an uncertainty at the end.

That being said, you are right that Americans are still living in the 18th century. Those of us who aren't always get outvoted by those who are. If it were up to popular vote, we'd still have slavery in this country. More power to you that you live in a country where there is no such discrimination on those lines. I am not gay, but my heart goes out to everyone in my country who is, and is having their rights taken away.

If the US does not become like Western Europe in toto within the next four years, I will leave and never return. I have no desire to live in a country of reactionaries which will never socially advance even if I live to be a hundred. (Which is 81 years in the future, if you're wondering.)

It's called invasion of privacy. If he gets off completely we should all fear for our liberty. I don't want to live in a country where everyone is permitted to spy on everyone else.

As for Tyler suicide is LAME and SELFISH and I feel no sympathy for anyone who commits it.

Yes, never mind the fact that most people willing to commit suicide probably aren't thinking right at the time because they are extremely depressed.
