Well, I have never been of the mind that anything was impossible...the pyramids exist, stonehenge is there, the weird faces of Easter Island can be touched....what has ALWAYS blown my mind is that evolutionists would rather attribute these things to aliens, instead of using them as proof of man-kind's intelligence, and not just opposable thumbs. They really blew it there.

You've obviously confused Erik Von Daniken for Charles Darwin. It's an easy mistake to make, they both wrote books and their last name begins with "D".

I must've missed that chapter in the origin of species where Darwin talks about how Stonehenge was built by aliens.

This makes sense to him because he is using the word "evolutionist" to mean anyone who is not a fundagelical christian. Hence, believers in ancient aliens, anyone left of Rush Limbaugh, atheists, agnostics, and all the New Age nitwits are all enclosed under one umbrella term which means "anyone who doesn't think like I do."

I find the idea that ancient aliens with advanced technology visited our planet during the early days of human civilization and shared their knowledge with the nascent human race, who then mythicized them over time into supernatural beings in a manner similar to the evolution of cargo cults in New Guinea MORE PLAUSIBLE than the idea that ACTUAL supernatural beings created everything around us and live to this day in a magical undetectable firmament above the clouds where they patiently await to grant us eternal pleasure or torment according to arbitrary and often inscrutable rules that they failed to properly articulate in a convincing manner in the first place.

The sad thing is, if livin_in_the_Son had his way all the structures and idols he mentioned would be destroyed because they were built in the name of pagan gods. He has to realize the irony in using them to back his fundie claims

@ skatepunk: the pyramids were not built by slave labor, pulling ropes or otherwise.

@ lofagren: I find the idea of a 109-word run-on sentence repugnant.

What the fuck have you been reading? No mainstream, credible scientist says that aliens were responsible for those. As a matter of fact "aliensdidit" is basically a punchline used to mock people who say things like that.

""There is as much evidence for aliens visiting the earth as there is for creationism.""

To be fair to insane conspiracy alien nutbags... at least both planets and intelligent physical animals exist. The only ones on earth may be us boring old home grown humans... but you don't need to add magic into the equation to have aliens in the universe.

Though I understand and accept the ToE, I just don't remember attributing anything, anywhere, ever to aliens.

P.S. That your mind is blown is painfully obvious. Blown like a blackened fuse.

No, you're thinking of "ancient astronaut" devotees. They're usually fans of Erich von Däniken, Immanuel Velikovsky, and Zecharia Sitchin.

You'll be happy to know that a majority of them don't believe in evolution either, since a sizable fraction of them think humans were genetically engineered--or at least tampered with--by an alien species. In fact, many of them are also bible literalists and Christians, albeit of an extremely bizarre type. Many of those people believe that "aliens" are actually demons, or at least demonic.

The pyramids (and temples) in Egypt were built by the agricultural labourers, during the time of the Nile floods, as a form of 'National Service' (in their belief that their pharaoh would enter the realm of the gods, and thus ensure their place in the afterlife, the pyramids were seen as 'resurrection machines'; also, that their building such would gain favour with the gods, so as to ensure bountiful harvests).

Stonehenge - in my country, Britain - was built by the worshippers of the Pagan gods, and used by the Druids as a kind of solar/lunar calendar/clock, to indicate the Spring/Summer Equinoxes, and Beltane/Samhain; also Winter Solstice, as part of 'Earth Goddess' worship.

The Moai were carved & transported by the people of Rapa Nui, as part of their Ancestor Worship beliefs; at a time of inter-tribal strife, over natural resources. Which, ironically, via their cutting down trees for the purpose of transporting & erecting said Moai, accelerated this civilisation's demise.

PROTIP: The film "Stargate" is not a documentary. The books by Erich von Daniken were discredited decades ago. And the Rapanuians did not possess foresight in trying to advertise their creations then, to Konami* in the future, for use in their "Nemesis"/"Salamander"/"Gradius" shmup arcade videogames.

And the notion that Earth was seeded/genetically manipulated/evolutionally accelerated via extraterrestrials is purely in the realms of Sci-Fi. The film "2001: A Space Odyssey", TV series "Babylon 5" (humans altered by the Vorlons to create telepaths for use against the Shadows), and the anime series "Stratos 4" (it's "X-Files"-esque aspects, with a sentient space-borne 'virus' travelling to Earth via the comets/meteorites; this series' more benevolent version of the 'Cigarette Smoking Man' etc) and many more mentions in books/TV/film etc are just that: Fiction.

This dickhead had better not watch the film "Alien vs. Predator" then. The concept of the Mayan, Egyptian & Cambodian pyramids - and their similarity, despite their geographical/architectural/cultural disparity - being as a result of the Yautja (Predators) teaching ancient human civilisations how to build such (as the Yautja were regarded as gods) would cook this tinfoil (ass)hatter's brain under all that aluminium more surely than a roasted turkey.

*- I'm just surprised livin_in_another_dimension here didn't mention the Nazca Lines; Thor Heyerdahl, and all that jazz. Seeing as they featured in the Namco/Atari arcade game "Xevious" (and the unreleased 3D sequel "Solvalou"). [/MAME]

???

Pyramids = Egyptian laborers
Stonehenge = ancient religious star gazers
Easter Island = ancestral island natives

Evolution = sex and time

Aliens, yet to be found, interesting to talk about, didn't make squat on the Earth... as far as we know.

Um, if you replace "aliens" with "God," you have the exact thing we've been saying about fundies since... well, forever.

The difference, of course, is that it's not completely fictional bullshit when it's turned around that way.
