Oh, but the new amendment being passed in North Carolina that bans gay marriage (despite the number of religious people that are okay with it and some sects that want to acknowledge it) somehow isn't a violation of freedom of religion.

Rumor has it being a bishop doesn't work as a flame retardant when you're in Hell.
I hope Excellentia Reverendissima Jenky is aware of this.

Hitler, Franco and Mussolinni could veto cardinals in their countries (which no one else can or could do). And Stalin was trained as an Orthodox priest and organized a procession for our Lady of Kazan in Leningrad while sieged. So yeah, none of these idiots was actually an atheist.

He's right about Stalin. Not so much Hitler.
This is one of the worst cases of historical revisionism to visit this nation. First of all because it's an insult to the people who were actually persecuted and killed (i.e Jews, gays, communists) under the Nazi regime, done only because many conservatives are realizing that Hitler is a lot closer to their bigotries then they would like. Secondly because it requires an extreme distorting of Nazi policies that it is basically an insult to the intelligence of the people who are supposed to be convinced by it. They take Nazi's shutting down churches that were harboring Jews and breaking other Nazi laws as an example of Hitler's Anti-Christian persecution, while at the same time the Nazis were shutting down Jewish Synagogues and arresting Jewish civilians for the crime of simply existing.

Bishops, not cardinals.
I would have to check the treaties with other countries, but I happen to know that the German government can still reject the appointment (not the consecration) of bishops today, if they want to.
Check out the
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichskonkordat, article 14.
The treaty is still in effect. Due to the First Amendment, a treaty like this between the Vatican and the US would be impossible.

If this is the kind of bullshit and revisionist history taught in your schools, I'd close them too if I had the authority.
You assholes get more outrageous every year. How many more generations of humankind will it take before you are recognized for the self-serving monomaniacs that you are?

Godwins law is like Godwins love: Hard and fast(Insert: Branigans law).
To my knowledge, Obama never even MENTIONED, in the SLIGHTEST way, that he intended to close churches. Making them provide contraceptives to their employees is far from fascism. It isn't the governments job to promote abstinence. It IS the governments job to promote safe sex, and safe practices. It is not the government job to give special concessions to every organization that asks for them. what if a christian supermarket didn't want to provide contraceptives?
In the end, keeping your employees abstinent, or christian, or from simply buying a $12 box of condoms, falls to the church. not that i think they should be allowed to actively try and convert any employee who may not be of that churches religious doctrine.

For those wondering, Clémenceau was a Prime Minister during the Third République in France. He was indeed dubbed "bouffeur de curé", but it simply meant he wanted to prevent any influence from the Church in the politic sphere.
There were never any attempt to prevent Christians from practicing their religion, but the separation of Church and State was rigorously enforced.
Still butt-hurt about the 1905 law of separation, I see...
Oh, well, it was back in the time when the Catholic Church deemed democracy a modern error (nevermind the fact democracy was older than the Church).

@ Indicible: thanks for the Clemenceau clarification, I thought it must be something like that.
As for Stalin not being an atheist ... he did study at Tiflis Seminary, and certainly his mother would have liked him to be a priest, but he never took any vocational training or expressed any desire to do so. (He liked to claim he was booted out for atheism, but it isn't true, he simply skipped his leaving exams). As for trying to enlist the Orthodox Church during the Great Patriotic War ... can't have been a cynical propaganda move, no, he must have been a secret Christian all along. /sarcasm

History fail. Hitler was a Christian. And under Christian theocracies non Christians were killed or forced underground. And in today's world they are persecuted in Muslim theocracies. But not in the west.

In other words, he's a Christian who doesn't toe the bullshit line.
You total assholes, spouting off homilies that are in tone and intent exactly analogous with passages in Mein Kampf, continually try to rip all dissenting opinion, especially from people of faith.
GET THIS RIGHT FOR ONCE.
Being Hitleresque and saying you're Christian will not make his crap any holier, and it will not make opposing opinions painted with the Nazi brush.
WTFU, GTFU, STFU, or DIAF.

Hitler barely tolerated catholics??? what about there role in odessa smuggling nazi war criminals out of germany? even if you don't believe that the conspiracy extended beyond church members at the local level, it still shows a rather cozy relationship.
