Quote# 86976

My argument all along has been that the purpose of the First Amendment is to protect the free exercise of the Christian religion.

One evidence that [the Founding Fathers] were not dealing ... they weren't even intending to deal with non-Christian religions is what they did with Mormonism in the latter part of the nineteenth century. Mormonism - they call themselves by the name of Christ, but it is not an orthodox Christian network of churches, it just is not. Mormonism is not an orthodox Christian faith. It just is not. They have a different Gospel, they have a completely different definition of who Christ is and so forth, I mean, the list could be multiplied endlessly.

And it was very clear that the Founding Fathers did not intend to preserve automatically religious liberty for non-Christian faiths, so when Mormonism came along, they practiced polygamy, they believed in polygamy, just like Muslims do today.

Thomas Jefferson would like to have a word with you. His original writing of the declaration of independence was as follows "All men are created equal and independent. From that equal creation they derive rights inherent and inalienable."
Congress changed the wording.

So, come that day in November this year, you're going to be voting for Obama regardless, and not Mitt 'Magic Pants' Romney, eh...?!

(*Switches to Doug Piranha mode*):

Nooooo, you'd never let political expediency get in the way of your 'faith'-solid Religious convictions. Will you eh, Bryan?

Game, Set, and Annihilated Argument to me. [/hyper-smug & ultra-superior]

The Founding Fathers lived in the latter part of the nineteenth century? I thought they were all middle aged in the latter part of the eighteenth century.

What did they do with Mormonism? I'm dying of curiosity here...

Protestantism isn't particularly orthodox either, ya know. It's a fairly new and modern version of Christianity.

The four Evangelists have a different definition of who Christ is, for heaven's sake!

Multiplied with what...?

I don't think the First Amendment says (or works) what (or how) you think it says (or works).
