Quote# 86891

The dictionary defines rape as forced sexual relations against a person's will. By this definition it is possible for a man to rape his wife. However, given Paul's statements, it should not be against a wife's will to have sex with her husband. Therefore, if such an event happens, sin rests with the wife who is resisting fulfilling her duty in marriage. Sin also lies with the husband who is forcing sexual relations. Spousal rape is not a case where only one person is guilty of a sin.

I don't know whether to be relieved that he admits the rapist did something wrong or appalled that he is also blaming the victim.

Go die in a thermite fire.

I took a peek at the main site in order to try to find the "About Us" page, mostly to figure out the full precepts Hamilton would be coming from.

"The La Vista Church of Christ, located on the south side of Omaha, Nebraska, has no bowling league, no softball team, nor does it sponsor a Boy Scout troop. We have an air-conditioned building with several rooms for Bible classes, but there is no kitchen, no banquet hall, no gymnasium, or party room.

Perhaps you are wondering what kind of church is this, or what the church offers the community. Quite simply, we are a church that follows after the pattern of the New Testament. We are not a social club, nor a civic organization, nor a political forum, nor a welfare institution. While the influence of the church and its members are felt in all these areas, the church, itself, is none of these things. The church is a spiritual institution, which administers to the spiritual needs of its members and the community.

The church founded by Jesus Christ fulfills a need that no human institution could possibly perform. We deplore the fact that so many religious organizations have smothered the true purpose of the Lord's church beneath civic, social, and domestic affairs. They feed hungry souls with hamburgers, but we feed the soul with the teachings of Christ (John 6:26-35)."

1. I can understand the lack of a banquet hall and gymnasium, but what's wrong with a kitchen? The original Christian gatherings were in their own homes, and THEY probably didn't lack for a kitchen (-analog). At the very least, you can site-cook refreshments for the Bible classes. (On the other hand, given how small the building looks...)

Likewise, I understand seeing no point in having a representative softball team or bowling league, but given the "Reverent" aspect of the Boy Scouts' oaths...what do you have to lose? (Never mind that my father, when he was a Scoutmaster, interpreted "reverent" as just meaning "not prejudiced towards one's spiritual beliefs or lack of spiritual beliefs". Not about to reject someone just because they weren't theistic.)

2. Er...Social club for a particular philosophy, maybe? Remember what I said about the original gatherings being in believers' homes? Do you really think constant support of each other--both philosophical/emotional and material--wasn't a feature of the situation?

3. Bah. What makes you think a spiritual organization can't minor in the social or civic? What's non-civic or non-social about the Christian philosophy, really? Anyway, if you only bother to feed the psyche, but abjure feeding the body, how is that not sanctimony?

So, as much as this prick deserves to DIAF, he does admit that the husband is, at least partly, in the wrong.

If the fact that that can be considered progress enrages, saddens, or disappoints you in any way... Do not worry, that only means you are still sane.

Paul did NOT mean that.

Neither did Ringo, and John would have gladly kicked your ass.

So the wife should serve a sentence for raping herself? Will she serve it in the same cell as the husband, seeing how they are partners in crime?

In other words, the wife should be a mindless sex slave.

1. I can understand the lack of a banquet hall and gymnasium, but what's wrong with a kitchen?

Easy: Jesus ate the Last Supper. So, if that was the last one, what would you need a kitchen for today?

Just get a coffee machine and wait for the Last Breakfast.

We deplore the fact that so many religious organizations have smothered the true purpose of the Lord's church beneath civic, social, and domestic affairs.

I can just hear Jesus cheering them on right now. Jesus too would deplore any involvement of his followers in civic, social, and domestic affairs. Christians reaching out to the community? Doing good? Helping others? Shame on them!

Love to see their reaction to a wife tying a husband down and having her way with him...whether he likes it or not.
