This If is utterly unrealistic. But if we'll take it at face value...
"Republic rebels" are royally screwed. They have no manpower and no industry to fight this war, no access to international trade (I seriously doubt mexicans or canadians will be happy to trade with them) and no international support (seriously. Who will want them to win?). And the theatre of war is mostly very open and with good road network, which will make this easy for side with air and tank superiority - which is never rebels, by the way. The best thing they can hope is some low intensity partisan warfare after quick and sure defeat. And may be some mountain strongholds which will survive for a few months. And may be Alaska - if it's part of rebellion - it will have rough terrain, many forests, bad road network and general logistic problems with going there. Also too much will depend from Canada's views on military marching through them.

If Obama declared himself dictator the military would be obligated by their oath to take him down.
The military swears to defend the United States and the Constitution NOT the President or any individual.

If Obama (or anyone) tried to declare themselves dictator, the vast majority of the military would be against him. I'd like to think most of the citizens would be as well, but that depends on how popular he or she is.

Wow, you've put a lot of thought into this. Next exercise: what if unicorns invaded Georgia (the country, not the state) tomorrow?

You're insane. INSANE. Even at the height of his Consitutional violations, no one assumed that Bush would declare himself a dictator. You just can't handle the fact that your political opponent is in office. Grow the fuck up! Just because your idol Santorum is no longer in the running does not let you claim that the current president is a dictator!

If I declared myself Dictator and Archduke of Colorado-Nebraska tomorrow, what would our military do?
Nothing. The police would call for psychiatric support, and I would be sent to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

I would rather hope that the American military and police, to a man, upheld that Constitution thing, and arrested him.
In that extremely extremely unlikely scenario. Is it even remotely possible to just... declare yourself dictator of a democratic country?

So... Someone who studied Constitutional Law is going to declarr himself dictator and expect the military (who swore to uphold the Constitution and defend the country from all threats foreign AND DOMESTIC) to just go along with it?

If Obama declared himself dictator tomorrow, what would (y)our military do?
Probably bust a gut laughing, and then say "Good one, Mr. President."

I'm quite sure that any president, especially a black one, declaring himself dictator would be quickly tossed out on his ear and likely charged with treason.

Just because you're mentally incapable of thinking in terms besides black/white, us/them, good/bad, doesn't mean the world works that way.

Reality of political affiliation is much more complicated than your 5 second look at an electoral college map would indicate.

Y'know, I've written a homebrew RPG that has a similar story to this. The difference is that mine is presented as FICTION.

I prefer the scenario of Weird Al declaring himself the ruler of all chocolate, with a wand that turns things into chocolate.
There are worse ways to die.
