Will America’s young women be just a bit more likely to experiment with lesbianism now that JCPenney is mainstreaming it? Too any objective observer, the answer must be yes. Is this a good thing? To any objective observer, the answer must be no. Research has indicated that lesbians suffer from increased levels of depression, suicidal ideation, substance abuse, breast cancer and vaginal diseases compared to heterosexual women. Thus what JCPenney has done, by increasing, even if ever so slightly, the chances that young women will experiment with this behavior will turn out to be a tragic thing for some. JCPenney will have to share some culpability for that.

Also, as a straight man, I like having lesbian friends; it means I have female friends I can talk about girls with.

The world would be a poorer place without lesbians.

Oh shut up Bryan. I'm a little jealous of Ellen's missus too, but I'm not an ass about it.

Will Britain's people be just a bit more likely to experiment with seahorses now that Unilever is mainstreaming it in their products? To any objective observer, the answer is PG Tips Tea, Johnny Vegas and a knitted simian. [/surreal]

How is it "mainstreaming lesbianism" just because the person who's in their adverts, who is already well known, happens to be a lesbian? If they're a girl, and they fancy girls, then they fancy girls. If they fancy guys, they fancy guys. That's all there is to it.
And what the fuck is the connection between lesbianism and breast cancer? Where the hell did that come from? And if they've got more depression and suicidal ideation maybe that's because people like you insist on making them feel like there's something wrong with them. Another self-fulfilling prophecy, from the experts.

And where, praytell, does the so-called 'research' come from? Because it's findings seem to be completely backwards from the vast majority of actual medical findings.

To slip further down the slippery slope ...

Will America's young women be just a bit more likely to experiment with becoming a talk show host or even, gasp!, a product spokesperson?

No. Not really.

As soon as I saw that he was speaking on behalf of "any objective observer" I knew a great steaming heap of totally non-objective fundie mouth-crap would follow.

Research has indicated that lesbians suffer from increased levels of depression, suicidal ideation, substance abuse, breast cancer and vaginal diseases compared to heterosexual women.

Please name your sources. I want to see those studies.

Let me guess: you did an opinion poll in your church?

The kind of women that merely "experiment" with lesbianism (rather than those who discover, accept, and embrace part of their sexual identity) are the kind that'll do anything to get a man's attention. "Incresing, if ever so slightly, the chances that young women will experiment with this behavior" is anything but tragic, and it makes me sad that this guy's faulty logic has no basis in reality and there is in fact not a rise in the chance that sloppy girl-on-girl makeouts will happen in front of me.

Vaginal diseases? Lesbians have the lowest rate of AIDS of any group.

Speaking as a bisexual woman, JCPenney has absolutely no influence on my sexual interests or behavior. Neither does Sears or Lord & Taylor or Walmart. It's simply not an issue for anyone who is free of homophobia.

And yes, I do think Ellen is cute, but her partner is cuter.

Last I read, didn't lesbians have a lower rate of STDs than other gender and sexual identities? And conservatives may as well claim that sex causes breast cancer, since they're convinced any use of a vagina for any reason other than birth causes breast cancer.

As for depression and suicidal thoughts, that's possible, but it has a lot less to do with who they're fucking and a lot more to do with bigoted assholes like this.

The only explanation I can think of for such a statement is that Bryan Fischer is an IRL troll.

Attaching "Research has indicated" to your unsupported statements doesn't magically make them legitimate.

Bryan:

I am going to be far, far more respectdful than a little shit like you deserves, so pay attention.

Primus; The brains of blacks continued to be the same size as those of white men despite the bullshit Army studies undertaken to try to disqualify them from becoming combat airmen.

Secundus: every single "study" predisposed to fail some class, racial group, orientation, or nationality has wound up being condemned by impartial oversight, and rightly so.

In short, you're just trying what has failed to work unto the eighth generation.

Godd, the respect is over.

Umm, Bryan?

Just another note; It's fucking guys that can give a girl CERVICAL cancer unless she's been immunized, an immunization that Christian groups want to forbid girls as they honestly believe Jason Voorhees' "sex is death" targeting preference will somehow make teens stop fucking.

Even if that myth were true, you'd WANT girls to have the immunization so they wouldn't fear screwing men, not that that has anything to do with lesbianism either.
