Yeah, this is out of context. The context is that the slaves were PEOPLE, and if the North paid the Southerners to let them go, or even swapped farm machinery for them- that would still be exchanging money for people, which is perpetuating slavery or paying ransom.

Actually no, the South fired the first shots of the American Civil War at the Battle of Fort Sumter in Charleston, SC in 1861.
Also in your link to the DailyMail, where does it say that their son was forced to dress a certain way other than conforming to the gender norms? Looks to me the parents made him stop.

As others have mentioned, the South fired on Fort Sumter, S.C., in 1861, which resulted in the North declaring war. Kinda like how Japan bombing Pearl Harbor resulted in the U.S. declaring war.

The war would have happened eventually anyway, the North would simply make it impossible diplomatically for the South to function so the South would eventually declare war on the North in a War of 1812 situation.

As much as it stinks that someone could discriminate against someone for any reason, and not let them into their establishment, if it is private property, it is protected under the constitution that the owner of that property can refuse anyone on that property they choose. You can search for yourself, Politico even recently did a story on the fact that Ron Paul was against Jim Crow laws. “The principle of private property has been undermined, and it was started back then,” Paul said. “But they can’t twist that and say I favored Jim Crow laws.” This entire article is propaganda, and you should be ashamed.
