Liberalism has had front seat and first dance at all the parties and grand openings. It's been coddled, nurtured, and protected by media, legislatures, and courts. It's been a staple educational form from kindergarten thru professorship. It's been written about ten to one over other political ideals and and taken in as a stepchild by the Hollywood elite. Liberalism has imposed it's values and will on private citizens and institutions and all other aspects of life. It's dampened Christmas, Easter, and every other Christian belief or expression and it's failed? I can only guess that with such an infrastructure, base of supporters, and institutional control the only reason it's failed is because it's wrong. Sounds like 45 minutes of sour grapes to me. The democrat party can never fully embrace liberalism because in it's true form liberalism represents only a small fraction of the population. Liberalism is a mental disorder.

The Magna Carta was a very liberal document for its time. The Constitution of the United States was extremely liberal. Every single example of progress in society has come about because of liberalism, the idea that things can be changed for the better. If conservatism had been the only practise from day one we would still be living in caves. Conservatism is needed as a brake on runaway liberalism, so that we don't run around trying every new idea at once, and never getting anywhere. The two must exist and co-operate. Unfortunately the main reason for the existence of conservatism these days seems to be to provide comic relief.
Repeat after me: It's ok to disagree with Republican ideology. That does not make other people fascists, Soviets, or anything else other than people who do not share the same worldview as you.
It's amazingly immature how the Republicans characterize EVERYONE who dissents from their views as an ebil crazy librul. It just shows their true childlike mentalities.
liberalism represents only a small fraction of the population
Isn't it strange how such a tiny portion of the population can totally dominate society, completely cancelling out the divine values of the vast conservative, constitutional, christian majority. Amazing!
Sure, that can happen in dictatorships in which the opposition is kept at bay with brutal force. As of yet I haven't seen republican politicians being arrested on the street and thrown into prison, never to be seen again. Christians haven't been forced into the underground, having to conduct their services in secret and to use clandestine signs so they don't get caught and tortured.
I must have missed how the media over-dubs speaches made by republicans, or is that why the presidential candidates all sound so mentally retarted?
If the "small fraction" of society is so incredibly powerful, perhaps we can learn something from them. They must be doing something right.
And yet, the Christian bible promotes liberalism, even going so far as to encourage people to be liberals.
Pro 11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
Isa 32:5 The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said [to be] bountiful.
edwardbear, you are a Christian hypocrite.
Speaking of sour grapes...
It's been ... protected by media
And of course Fox News is really fair & balanced.
Liberalism is the basic philosophy that we can make things better through change. Conservativism is the basic philosophy that things are just fine the way they are and you'll just screw things up if you change something.
If it were up to conservatives, Nog would never have been allowed to bring that fire thing into the cave.
Conservatives haven't been right about anything in the entire history of civilization so I sort of suspect they're not right about anything now.
If you think about it, Liberalism is based upon courage and conservatism is based upon fear.
Of course Liberalism unchecked can degrade into recklessness so conservatives have a role in keeping Liberals from getting carried away. Think of them as the breaks in a Corvette.
Our conservatives have protested every change proposed, until after it has been implemented and everyone has gotten used to it. Then they say it was their idea originally.
Edwardbear, ya know, the political idea that has been all but neglected in the US is socialism. It has almost only gotten bad press over there.
Conservatism has its own media emporium, after all. As long as Fox News is active, there will always be lies and slander thrown at Liberals.
Okay then...
Conservatism has had front seat and first dance at all the parties and grand openings. It's been coddled, nurtured, and protected by media, legislatures, and courts. It's been a staple of education from kindergarten through professorship. It's been written about ten to one over other political ideals and and taken in as a stepchild by the business elite. Conservatism has imposed its values and will on private citizens and institutions and all other aspects of life. The Republican party can and will fully embrace conservatism even though in its true form, conservatism represents only a small fraction of the population. This fraction just happens to be the super-rich. Fundamentalism is a mental disorder.
Fixed, oh so gloriously.
The mere fact that you deliberately and repeatedly use the juvenile right-wing pejorative "democrat party" instead of the correct term, DemocratIC Party, speaks so loudly about who you are that nothing else you say matters.
"Liberalism has had front seat and first dance at all the parties and grand openings. It's been coddled, nurtured, and protected by media, legislatures, and courts."
Yeah, that's why we have a Republitard congress and are still suffering the effects of 8 years of Reagan and 12 years of the Bushes.
"Liberalism is a mental disorder."
You seem particularly unqualified to judge what is and what isn't a mental disorder.
"Liberalism has had front seat and first dance at all the parties and grand openings" tl;dr...
And yet, Norway - with it's Democratic Socialist system, with welfare effectively from cradle to grave, was the only country to have emerged out of thos worldwide recession unscathed.
A worldwide recession caused by Capitalism itself , no less.
PROTIP: The Liberal Democrats in Australia are as right -wing as the Teabaggers. Your call, edwardbore.
Really? Liberalism represents only a small fraction? Then why the hell are there more registered Democrats than registered Republicans?
BTW, based on the last sentence alone, I bet this guy listens to Michael Savage.
Teddy,
It's a sad fact that so many in America really have no idea of what being liberal is. The Sermon on the Mount is a doctrine of liberalism. The Golden rule is liberalism.
I could go on, but why bother. I'll finish with this, though. Fundyism is only a very small step away from fascism and all the evils that brings.
"Sounds like 45 minutes of sour grapes to me."
This drives me over the edge every time it's misused. If you can't have something, and you comfort yourself by saying that you didn't really want it, or it wasn't worth it, you're having sour grapes.
Coworker: What are you listening to?
Me: NPR
Coworker: How can you listen to all that liberal crap?
Me: Liberal, really? Have you ever listened to NPR?
Coworker: No, never. I don't have to listen to it to know what it is.
Me: (Moving my chair so he could sweep under my desk) Hmmm.
@Anon-e-moose
To be fair, Norway is an oil power like Saudi Arabia. So it comes as little surprise that they've fared well.
I think an ideal example would be good ol' Deutschland. Aside from the Eurozone nonsense, that is!
Lucky for you, the UK has nothing to do with their chicanery.
Without liberals, we couldn't:
Give women couldn't vote (if anyone could vote at all that is)
We wouldn't be living in a secular republic, rather than a theocracy
Have a trial by jury
Not have children working in the coal mines
Grant the right of African-Americans and whites to be married
Destroy the institution of slavery
Remove the restrictions on African-Americans that made them second class citizens
Enable the old to retire and not worry about starving
Teach children the reality of sex and how to prevent the spread of STDs
Allow workers to unite to prevent gross abuse by employers for little pay
Allow women to be more than just mothers and housewives
Allow a woman to decide what is right for her body
Allow a man or woman to marry a person, regardless of their sex (this one is still a work in progress)
Be legally allowed to talk bad about the ruler and not be thrown in jail for such a thing
Not worry about soldiers quartering in your home.
I could go on and on but then again I'm sure you would love to return to those good old days we like to call the Dark Ages.
"It's dampened Christmas, Easter, and every other Christian belief or expression and it's failed?"
Somewhere in the afterlife, William Strunk is crying himself to sleep.
[It's dampened Christmas, Easter, and every other Christian belief or expression and it's failed?]
Funny how both those "Christian" holidays have pagan dates and pagan tranditions.
"Liberalism has had front seat and first dance at all the parties and grand openings."
Yes it does, Liberal concepts like Democracy, equal rights, constitutional government, political freedom are very popular.
But I'm guessing that's not what you meant.
@SomebodyYouKnow
It has to be noted, though, that as of 2012, a lot of these things have been cancelled out in America (right to a trial by jury, fact-based sex ed, legally being allowed to badmouth your rulers, etc).
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
