No one is worshipping science or giving it blind faith. Your churchs are jealous and frightened because while they claim they have answers science actually provides them. Science has created a more content, healthier and wiser population, science has accomplished what religion hasn't, can't and wouldn't if they could.
The projecting is amazing here. Religions record of enslavement is nearly absolute, that is why they attack any other philophosy or adherance to disipline. An educated society will abandon all religion
Science hasn't just changed our lookout, many of our careers wouldn't exist without the findings and developments of science. Do you think Christian church leaders haven't complained about every scientific achievment? The Steam Engine, the Railroad, The phonograph, Electrical generation and distrubution, Radio and Tv? They were fearmongerling on them all and still are harping on some.

Science as an abstraction may be amoral; but the religion you support is immoral.

Science is a method (by far the best method) for discovering facts about the real world. You just don't like it because you don't like the facts it has uncovered.
Morality relates to the ethics one uses in applying one's power.
P.S. Bob named himself after Dylan Thomas not Matt Dillion. The Dylan line you quote was written shortly before Bob saw the light and ditched Christianity.

@Papabear, it's not as clear as you make it out to be the source of Robert A. Zimmerman's better-known pen name. He very possibly *did* choose it by bastardizing the spelling of Matt Dillon.
I'm a fairly big fan of Dylan's. The three albums that stemmed from his conversion to Christianity (Slow Train Coming, Saved, and Shot of Love) are among his worst.
For a better Dylan quote, how about "While some warn victory, some downfall, private reasons, great or small, can be seen in the eyes of those that call to make all that should be killed to crawl, while others say don't hate nothing at all except hatred."

No morality without religion. Anyone else getting a little tired of this cliche? The Bible, for example, alternately advocates peace and genocide, and offers no objective basis by which to judge one as morally superior to the other, leaving them on an even field. It therefore stands for nothing and can add nothing even remotely meaningful on the subject of morality.
"Science does not believe in innocence, love, joy, peace or God."
You keep talking about this science thing like it's a person. Of course it does none of these things, because it's a method, not a sentient being.
"However science, and our government is interested in the levels of attraction gay men have for what lengths of penis. That is measureable and is worth spending millions of tax dollars on."
I'm trying very, very hard to keep a straight face right now. Are fundies just born without a sense of humor or irony, or do they have to work at discarding them?
"Like Bob Dillon said.."
Who's Bob Dillon? Is he related to Izzy Osbourne, by any chance?
"We better decide who we really want to serve. As another singer said, “When people decide to come out of the Closet rather than clean it, its a sign the judgement of God is going to fall.”
You do know how unbelievably made-up that quote sounds, right?
"Lets clean up our acts guys, freedom is not more vauable than morality."
Who says the two are mutually exclusive? Other than you, that is. Frankly, I think we should have your definition of 'freedom' before continuing this discussion.
"If there is no morality, nobody is free."
Doesn't follow. Go to your room. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.

Doesn't follow.
How does that not follow? I mean, yes, the rest of his post is wrong on so many levels, but that last sentence I actually agreed with. What's your objection?

Morality is not intrinsically concerned with freedom, and vice versa. There is overlap between the two concepts, but they are not one and the same. It is possible, for example, to lead a decadent and completely "free" life without concern for the moral values of one's actions. Hence to claim that without morality there is no freedom is a non-sequitur.

Newsflash, buddy! Science is a set of methodologies for learning about stuff. That in itself has no intrinsic moral attributes. Just like your slippers or a coat hanger.

I love it when someone speaks as an absolute authority on a subject about which they know nothing. Because NEVER has anyone noted the difference between the scientific method and moralistic determinism, and religion is totally a reliable source of morality. Totally.

Thank you for that. I'm going to steal it and use it whenever I can.

You don't like science? Stop using computers and the Internet. Stop flying from the US to Israel and back. Get rid of your car. Don't drink potable water.
Science doesn't *claim* to have morality.
What "morality" does the Bible advocate? There's so much contradictory stuff in there it's incredible.
The last two sentences are creepy. Sounds like you'd fit in well in Saudi Arabia. So, move.

Wait, so why do I have to go through so many ethics organizations in order to be able to conduct my research, take classes that specifically talk about how to conduct research ethically and what an ethical scientist is, and constantly have to be sure that I minimize harm in my studies?
Next time I have to submit protocol to the Internal Review Board I'm just going to say "there are no moral values in science" and do whatever the hell I want to.

Doubting ThomasIf we are going to hand our Nation over to science as our God, abandoning our roots in the Bible we are going to end up with something that no good man can stand to live in
Good think we're not worshiping science, then.
Like Bob Dillon said
Bob Dillon, the grocery store manager, not Bob Dylan the singer/songwriter.

freedom is not more vauable than morality.
Funny, that's exactly what the Taliban and various other religious leaders in middle eastern theocracies also think.
