CP: Are you saying everyday Christians, students, business people, and homemakers as well as clergy should be expecting bias, intolerance or hostility in all areas of life including civil government, education, economics, public policy, and family?

Howse: Actually, if an individual who claims to be a Christian is not experiencing intolerance or persecution – being called names, belittled, marginalized, or characterized because you stand for sound theology – you should examine yourself to make sure you are a Christian.

So, you like the idea of being dominated? Of being treated with hostility? Do you like being restricted, tied to one who you worship?

Christians experience persecution all the time. You just have to remember the correct definition of "persecute."

It appears that the only way to be a Christian is to be persecuted, tormented, mocked etc. Most people I know don't really have enough time to engage in this, so a lot of Christians must feel very unsure of their standing with Jayzuz. In fact, it is far easier to be kind and thoughtful to people.

So let's all start being really nice to the fundies so that they cannot really be Christians. Either that, or let's restore the Roman Empire and start breeding lions and tigers with a taste for Christian flesh.

.../sarcasm

I don't think I've ever heard anything stupider out of fundyism!

Everyday Christians here in Sweden are met with just as much tolerance, politeness and indifference as any other group of people.
It's much harder to be Romani or Muslim over here, does that mean that they are standing for sound theology?

"CP: Are you saying everyday Christians, students, business people, and homemakers as well as clergy should be expecting bias, intolerance or hostility in all areas of life including civil government, education, economics, public policy, and family? "

Only if you define "bias, intolerance or hostility" as being prevented from inflicting bias, intolerance or hostility on other people.

To all Christians who want to "make a sacrifice" to their god, I'd say "go witnessing in Iran or Saudi Arabia and your desire will come true in no time".

So why do Christians want to set up a theocracy then? By your logic that would prevent them from being True (TM) Christians. In fact, you should be doing the exact OPPOSITE of what Christians are doing now: elect only anti-theists to public office, claim that the Constitution doesn't protect Christians, declare that the US is and has always been an anti-Christian nation, campaign against teaching creationism even in church, demand that every other religion get preferential treatment in employment and schooling, and start complaining about Christian billboards and advertisements. You want to be persecuted? As the saying goes: "if you want something done right, you've gotta do it yourself".

Hi, I'm Wayne Dollar, president of Persecution Inc.
Are you a Christian who, living in a country that is 75 percent Christian, has a hard time receiving a sufficient amount of taunting, name-calling and just overall persecution?
Are you doubting your faith due to the lack of persecution in your life?
Well, that's where Persecution Inc. comes in.
For a small fee we will send over one of our specially trained atheists, agnostics, homosexual activists or Mormons to your house or church to hurl insults at you and your family, quote contradictory Bible verses, tell you the Bible is a fairy tale written by ignorant goat herders and discuss evolutionary theory.
Our basic packages are very reasonable. For just a little more our goon squad will steal your Bibles, picket your Tea Party rally or even rough you up a little.
Call now, operators are available.

You guys make up 72% of the population. Just because you're not allowed to persecute others doesn't mean that you're being persecuted.

"I don't think that the purpose of Christians is to be an arsehole, is it?"

Thats not what the Bible or Jesus said but it does seem to be a core belief.

Do you know how many Americans are Christian - what a high proportion of the population it is? Does it occur to you that most Christians in America spend virtually their whole lives in the sole company of other fucking Christians? When, exactly, are they supposed to be getting persecuted? Who is persecuting them? Why do you still not grasp what persecution means?

Doubting Thomas

The existence of people who don't believe in your religion is not persecution. And this insistence on being persecuted is really disturbing. Anyone who wants to be persecuted should be examined by a psychologist.

But the desire to be taunted, belittled, or made fun of does explain why so many Christians are total assholes.

Actually, he's right. According to the bible, Christians are supposed to experience persecution as a sign of their devotion to god. Given that in the U.S., they're not only not being persecuted, but are also heavily involved in influencing politics should say something about said devotion.
