Don't you have anything better to do with your time than whine about video game terminology?

I've was once mistaken for God by a bartender in Buffalo. When I entered the place he said, "Jesus Christ, are you here again?"

@Xotan (#1254623):
God breathed life into Adam.
Yeah, but Adam was just a cheap (albeit not monetarily) Apple clone add-on for Colecovision. Nothing all that great. Try entering a program in Bally Basic on the Astrocade's calculator keypad. Early training for texting!

wasn't god mode always around? Didn't it start out as god mode and then move to invincibility and then back again?
Does anyone care?

I think that this is another way Satan wants people to think that they are gods
As opposed to fundamentalists who think God loves them better than anyone else and is going to kick the asses of all the liberals, Yankees, non-Christians, atheists, pansy-assed wine-tasters, opera fans, illegal aliens, guys who don’t like sports, women who wear pants, people who read the NIV Bible instead of the KJV and people who thought their grandmother was a monkey and send them to the Lake O'Fire®, while all the fundies who didn’t let anyone baptize them before the age of responsibility and voted for McCain/Palin will get to say "I told you so" and laugh at all those people who didn’t listen to them and are now weeping and gnashing their teeth in agony.

Reading the whole article... and apparently Doom, the game where you kill and defeat the forces of Satan, is encouraging you to...be a Satanist?

Ah, Rise of the Triad. The best game ever made. I'm glad someone here remembers it. I still play it every so often. It also had a Dog mode.

Hint from a random gamer: "God modes" are boring shit. They're cheats. Stupid crutches that will just ruin your fun. Serious gamers won't need them because they don't want to ruin their own fun.
I don't know about that. Sometimes it's fun just to run around with a rocket launcher and see how many explosion you can get and how high you can launch yourself or how many mines you can stack together on an enemy's forehead and see how far they launch when you detonate them. Granted, it's not something I'd plan an afternoon around but there are certainly fun uses for it.

In recent years? How old is this article? Commander Keen has god mode and that was made back in '90/'91.
Next we'll get into the speech about 'Landlords'

"God mode" doesn't mean what you think it does, and the term has been around for at least 10 years. Lurk moar.

I checked the article, and apparently it's from when Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, and Warcraft 2 were recent. So Andrew isn't a clueless about gaming as he seems.
Oh, and apparently metal horns are "the Satanic salute."
"Nowadays, more people are worshipping their friends or their favorite music stars, and are calling themselves gods and goddesses." Holy shit, the 90s kicked more ass than I remember, if people were building alters and burning offerings to each other.

"God-mode" works like a charm. That is, until the level 7 boss comes at you with his iron chariot.

God mode? You mean like a cheat code? Do they even make games with cheats anymore?

Nah, it's just easier (and shorter) to spell than "invincibility". Stop reading so much into a simple game mode.

The web design looks like it came straight out of the '90's. But you can trust the reliability of an article "by Andrew" (no last name given). I'm sure his teacher gave him an "E" for effort.

What does imply about Source games, though? (wherein the invincibility code is "buddha")

You mean like a couple of decades? Like said earlier on this thread, even i was playing Doom in the early 90s and yes: The God-mode was there alright.

i find this doubly hilarious since there actually is a game where you play as the antichrist and go on a mission to kill God
